JOB LOCATION:Walnut Creek Family YMCA
SHIFTS / CLASS AVAILBLE:Variety of days and times.
HOURLY RATE RANGE: $19.00-$22.50 / hour based on qualifications and experience
CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS: September 15, 2023 – Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
Operating within the policies, procedures, and practices of the YMCA of Greater Des Moines, this position is responsible for developing individualized, goal oriented training plans, conducting personal training sessions, facilitating member involvement and relationship building, and providing excellent customer service. Certified Personal Trainers are responsible for exemplifying professionalism and leadership in the areas of fitness, exercise and basic rehabilitation techniques.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Follow proper registration procedures to ensure fees are collected.
- Follow established and approved pre-screening procedures.
- Assist members in developing realistic, attainable goals and continually modifying training objectives
- Develop an individualized, goal oriented fitness plan for each member assigned.
- Develop and conduct personal training sessions based on goals and abilities of participants.
- Instruct member on proper form, technique and execution of fitness plan exercises for optimal performance/results.
- Motivate member to work to maximum and safe potential, providing physical and psychological assistance, support and encouragement.
- “Spot” and/or perform exercises with member for the benefit of the member’s workout.
- Encourage participants through individual attention as well as verbal, written and electronic correspondence.
- Promote member engagement by encouraging involvement in related Y programs and small communities.
- Maintain records on each participant as directed by guidelines and procedures.
- Monitor participant progress on a regular basis to evaluate program effectiveness and progress toward goals.
- Attend department and Branch staff meetings as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or designated staff person.
- Demonstrate and support the objectives of the Association as embodied in the mission statement and values.
Requirements
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to read, write, perform simple mathematical functions.
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- YMCA of the USA Orientation to Healthy Living
- Current personal training certification with:
a. One of the current National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) Accredited Certification Programs
b. One of the current certification programs accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education & Training Council (DETC)
c. A personal training certification program reviewed and approved through the YMCA of Greater Des Moines internal review procedures
d. Or a current Stott Pilates Reformer Certification. - Current Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED certification OR equivalent – prior to starting.
- Intro to Y’s Cause & Culture Online Course – prior to starting if hired.
- Training to be completed within the first 30 days and maintained afterwards
