Position Overview

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE) has an immediate opening for an experienced Design Engineering Manager in our Construction Engineering Services (CES) Group. The ideal candidate has a considerable experience in complex heavy civil, transportation and/or industrial construction projects, allowing them to identify temporary works designs that will be needed throughout a project, assess risk, perform constructability reviews, track and report engineering costs and forecasts, assign and prioritize resources to meet design schedules, and manage temporary works design subconsultants. The candidate also must possess exceptional problem-solving skills that allow for adapting to rapidly changing conditions and construction needs.

Our CES group supports the design and construction of temporary works tasks that include: Bridge erection & demolition, Cofferdam design, Critical crane lifts, Erection sequencing & staged construction analysis, Hoisting and jacking, Deep foundations and dewatering, Excavation support, Marine engineering, Pile drive analysis, Ductwork analysis, Falsework design, Temporary bridge & trestle, CES estimate support, Working surface design, On-site engineering support.

CES Design Engineering Managers are part of a growing team that supports all aspects of the construction process for Kiewit’s Design-Build and standard delivery projects in all markets. Our Construction Engineering Services (CES) Group consists of innovative design engineers whose expertise in designing and building temporary works adds value to the success of our clients’ projects. Additionally, CES provides on-site engineering and coordination support through leading and collaborating with Kiewit’s construction teams

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering’s Design Build Management team are driving clients to turn to Kiewit during all stages of design-build projects to manage their multi-disciplined design teams to improve schedule, control costs, and minimize risk. Location

This position is based to be based remote, with expectations to travel to New York City office periodically.

Responsibilities
• Lead and manage technical teams in the design of temporary works on pursuits and construction projects
• Perform constructability reviews for temporary works and construction methods including:

  • Heavy lift plans (site logistics, equipment selection, geometry/feasibility studies, design of custom rigging and lifting devices, hoisting and jacking systems, custom tools, and crane pad / working surface designs)
  • Erection procedures or planned sequences related to construction or demolition operations
  • Evaluation of existing structures for construction loads and/or demolition planning
  • Structural analysis to ensure stability during the temporary condition of new bridges, viaducts, buildings, tunnels, and other structures (for example: construction staging, design of temporary falsework systems, and rebar cage hoisting and support)
  • Support of excavation systems or cofferdams for construction below grade
  • Temporary bridges, trestles, work platforms, fall protection systems, formwork, and other features relating to our construction operations

• Review temporary works tasks for conformance to project design criteria
• Identify construction and design risks and assist with risk mitigation planning
• Collaborate and assist construction teams in identifying and planning temporary works
• Determine whether engineering tasks should be sent to subconsultants or performed by CES (based on resource availability and technical expertise)
• Build and maintain relationships with qualified subconsultants
• Review and administer engineering contracts
• Develop budgets, schedules, and staffing plans for design of temporary works
• Control, track, and report cost of engineering services
• Monitor and report design schedule progress within CES and with construction teams
• Mentor junior staff with technical and professional development

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree or greater in Civil Engineering.
• 8 to 10+ years of directly related experience in heavy civil, transportation, and/or industrial construction projects
o 5+ years’ experience in project management on projects valued at $50M+
o At least two years’ experience in design, management, and/or construction of temporary works
• Strong technical background as a design engineer, field superintendent, or planning manager for temporary works on large complex projects
• Experience administering engineering contracts

Base Compensation: $120,639 – $185,267
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
