Description
Cary’s Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources team is seeking energetic individuals at least 18 years of age with a passion for outdoor education and a knack for facilitating teambuilding activities. Challenge Course Facilitators will guide visiting groups through the low- and high-element ropes course programs at , providing critical opportunities for reflection and team development along the way. Facilitators should be adept at working with people of all ages and abilities, as participants may include school groups, sports teams, community organizations like scouts, nonprofits, or corporate groups.
This is a part-time, non-benefited, year-round position, up to 20 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year.
Applicants should be able to work weekdays or weekends from 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. year-round, with occasional evening hours.
Typical Tasks
- Provides safe, high-quality, interactive facilitation of Bond Park Challenge Course activities (Leap of Faith, Giant Swing, High Adventure Course, and Low Teambuilding Course);
- Engages in customer service by communicating with participants, group leaders, organizations, and community members;
- Works with managerial staff to ensure programs are safe, adequately equipped, well maintained, and attractive;
- Assists with set-up, tear down, and clean-up of equipment and supplies;
- Assists with promotion of recreational programs and responds to inquiries from participants and the public when needed;
- Performs other job-related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of challenge course programs and operations; knowledge of equipment and supplies required for challenge course operations; strong customer service skills; excellent interpersonal communication skills; ability to engage and effectively communicate with participants of all ages and abilities; ability to analyze problems, identify alternatives, and make recommendations; ability to tie a variety of knots, belay, and put on harnesses and safety gear; ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. on a regular, recurring basis; ability to carry as much as 50 lbs. occasionally, such as ropes, harnesses, and related equipment and supplies; ability to climb to heights of 45 ft.; ability to balance on cables, swing on ropes, and climb a variety of ladders; ability to work outside during all types of weather.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED.
Prefers experience in facilitation at an experiential challenge course program.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. on a regular, recurring basis; and as much as 50 lbs. occasionally, such as ropes, harnesses, and related equipment and supplies.
Must be able to climb to heights of 45 ft. and be able to balance on cables, swing on ropes, and climb a variety of ladders.
Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment.
