The Ice Cream Plant, located in Bellevue, Washington has an opening for a Chief Engineer.

This is a full time/union position and will require the successful candidate to join the Operating Engineers Union Local 302. The position offers great benefits including health insurance, dental and vision, retirement saving benefits, vacation days and much more.

The Chief Engineer is responsible for performing and/or overseeing preventive maintenance on equipment. Scheduling, planning and execution of daily tasks including Preventative Maintenance (PM) work orders, scheduled repair work orders, unscheduled emergency repairs, and project work associated with the operation of a production and warehouse facility. This position will also serve as the lead engineer within the maintenance department who is responsible for daily communication with the shift leads and other plant engineers.

  • Competitive Wages – The pay range is $39.00 to $42.00 per hour, but no less than the local minimum wage. Starting rates will vary based on things like location, experience, qualifications, and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement.
    • Additional premiums for swing and grave shifts are available. Dependent on length of service, hours worked and any applicable collective bargaining agreement, benefits include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay (accrued based on hours worked), PTO/Vacation pay (accrued based on hours worked), paid holidays (between 7-9 days annually), bereavement pay, and retirement benefits (pension and/or 401k eligibility).
    • Pay dependent on experience.

This position requires the following:

  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate daily activities
  • Ability to maximize productivity and minimize waste
  • Ability to delegate work to various shifts and coordinate with maintenance staff
  • Ability to lead, teach and develop team members in areas specific to the equipment as well as mechanical and electrical engineering principles
  • Ability to work with outside contractor services and provide guidance to areas specific to the facility
  • Willingness to work in a safe manner and promote a safe working environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively with peers and supervisors in both oral and written form

Roles and responsibilities will include the following at a minimum:

  • Schedule, plan, and execute all needed maintenance functions in support of Total Preventive Maintenance (TPM) initiative and Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) programs utilizing a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Delegate workload to maintenance engineers on various shifts
  • Schedule shifts for all maintenance personnel including overtime, project work, and vacation coverage.
  • Accurately complete work order documents and summary reports
  • Coordinate emergency repairs as needed
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance tasks as scheduled
  • Participate in continuous improvement process
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of maintenance and product support areas
  • Ability to publish and train maintenance personnel on standard operating procedures (SOPs) for maintenance processes
  • Perform data entry and execute transactions using Safeway computer applications
  • Comply with government regulations
  • Recognize both internal and external customers and manage relationships
  • Work safely following all documented state and federal safety requirements.
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of a world class manufacturing environment
  • Ensure that equipment is maintained at a level to produce Maximum production at the lowest cost, the highest quality, and utilizing optimum safety standards.
  • Resolve equipment malfunctions by evaluating performance breakdowns, identifying the root cause and taking corrective action.
  • Ensure compliance with GMPs and safety policies while planning and completing projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

A Maintenance Technician may perform maintenance functions in any or all of the following areas:

  • HTST/Mix Operations
  • Flavor/Mix Operations
  • Filler /Freezer Operations
  • Packaging/Wrapper Operations
  • Hardening Room/Palletizer Room/Forklift Operations
  • General Utility

Specific Skills Required for the Position (unless otherwise noted):

  • Computer skills (basic computer knowledge)
  • Working knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for asset management and maintenance work planning/scheduling
  • Working knowledge of PLC controls (helpful, but not required)
  • Knowledge of electrical systems including 110-480V systems, AC & DC control systems, installing, troubleshooting and repair
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic, plumbing and pneumatic systems
  • Knowledge of refrigeration systems, with ammonia (preferred by not required)
  • Welding-TIG, MIG, Stick, etc. Stainless / Sanitary equipment experience (helpful but not required)
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints
  • Licensing and regulatory compliance in accordance with Washington State Law
  • Forklift and pallet-jack certification (helpful, but not required)
  • Knowledge of plant mechanical processes sufficient to analyze performance trends and recommend and initiate corrective actions to improve process performance
  • Effective oral and written communication
  • Willingness to learn multiple tasks and work in a cross-functional environment
  • Be a team player in a teamwork environment

Physical Demands of the Position:

  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. above the waist 10 times per day
  • Significant bending and stooping
  • Exposure to heights (may be elevated 40ft. on lift equipment)
  • Willingness to work extended or any scheduled work hours

Physical Work Environment May Include the Following:

  • Exposure to extreme temperature changes (hot and cold)
  • Exposure to loud noises, allergens and moving mechanical parts
  • Exposure to Hazardous chemicals

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Weekend availability

Experience:

  • Maintenance Engineering: 10 years (Preferred)
  • Manufacturing Maintenance: 10 years (Preferred)
