Overview
Under general supervision of the Director of Operations, the Chief Engineer manages, supervises and coordinates the maintenance of the mechanical, HVAC, electrical systems, plumbing and related equipment for the Grand River Center. The Chief Engineer also plans and oversees the Capital Improvement Program and a variety of projects determined by Executive Management.
This role will pay a salary of $55,000 to $60,000.

About the Venue
The Grand River Center is a full-service meeting and event facility located in the heart of downtown Dubuque, Iowa. Newly renovated in 2020, featuring over 40,000+ square feet of meeting and exhibition space for events up to 2,000.
Responsibilities
- Assume management responsibility for all services and activities involved in the maintenance and operations including HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, refrigeration, boilers and associated equipment
- Select, train, manage, motivate and evaluate maintenance staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures
- Plan, direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for facility maintenance and operations; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems; assign work activities, projects and programs; monitor work flow; review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures
- Participate in the development and administration of the Operation budget; forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures; implement adjustments as necessary
- Assume management responsibility of building projects
- Assist in the direction and monitoring of the work of contractors, engineers, and architects on building projects
- Order supplies and materials for maintenance programs within budget guidelines; receive, inventory and maintain supplies
- Perform corrective maintenance and preventative maintenance duties related to arenas and systems.
- Maintain hazardous materials communication program, material safety data sheets and required records and permits; maintain knowledge of changes in pertinent Federal, State and Local regulations
- Develop and maintain an accurate record keeping system of preventative maintenance inspections and maintenance needs
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
- Applicant shall have an appropriate combination of experience, knowledge, expertise and qualified credentials commensurate with this critical position on our team.
- Bachelor’s degree or better from an accredited college/university with major coursework in facility management, hospitality management, business management, or related field preferred
- Minimum of five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in facility operations management preferably with a sports facility, convention center or other multipurpose public assembly facility. Additional property management experience a plus.
- Specialized training in the maintenance of HVAC, plumbing, boiler equipment, lighting systems, chilled water systems, electrical and other related building systems
- Familiarity with OSHA requirements, NFPA, NEC and Florida Building Code
- Possession of an electrical license is highly desirable
- Ability to climb stairs and lift 40lbs, unaided
- Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays as required
- Ability to operate Windows based computer systems
