Job Title: Child Care Assistant and Car Driver
Location: Adult Education/Families Learning Together
Salary Index: $15.60 Hourly, part-time, non-benefited position
Proposed hours: 8:45 a.m. – 1:45 p.m. weekly on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday (schedule may vary)
Reports To: Adult Education Teacher/Coordinator
SUMMARY: Transports adult literacy students and family members to and from adult/family literacy
class. Assist the teacher and coordinator in the classroom as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Assists and supports families with transportation for classes that may include securing children with seat belts, harnesses, or other safety equipment as required.
- Assists with childcare during adult and family literacy classes.
- Exercises good judgment concerning emergencies, appropriate vehicle use, irregular special requests by parents of riders, along with classroom management.
QUALIFICATIONS

- Valid Virginia Driver’s License (Required);
- GED or High School Diploma (Required);
- Ability to communicate with administration, staff, and the public in a professional manner;
- Ability to operate radio communication when necessary;
- Ability to operate all vehicle types used in transporting adult students
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations applicable to transportation of students;
- Previous bus driver or car driver experience preferred;
- Experience working with children;
- Ability to work well with preschool children;
- Must possess a positive, cooperative attitude and be flexible with schedule changes;
- Must pass a transportation physical and criminal background check.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Valid Virginia Driver’s license.
- High school diploma or GED equivalency.
- Meet state requirements for appropriate licensing.
- Meet State physical examination requirements.
- Meet local or State standards for driving tests.
- Meet local or State standards for driver record check.
- Successful completion of the National Red Cross First Aid Course.
