Senior Energy Market Advisor II

Summary

The Senior Energy Market Advisor II represents NYPA in NYISO, PJM and FERC stakeholder groups, developing NYPA positions on issues related to the Northeast market design and FERC wholesale market regulatory matters, and provides recommendations on emerging NYPA initiatives. #LI-CJ1

Responsibilities

  • Represent NYPA on a high impact issues before a multitude of stakeholder and regulatory bodies.
  • Take responsibility for strategically managing developing Market Issues that have significant financial and/operational impacts on NYPA.
  • Develop NYPA’s positions consistent with NYPA’s Strategic Plan and members of NYPA’s Senior Staff.
  • Responsible for formulating and casting NYPA’s vote on wholesale market matters at Voting Committees of the NYISO Governance.
  • Monitoring current energy issues to identify issues relevant to NYPA and develop recommended NYPA action.
  • Work in conjunction with the Senior Director Market Issues to brief NYPA Executive Staff.
  • Day-by-day global monitoring of evolving changes in wholesale market rules.
  • Take on issues of high complexity, work through those issues by (i) technically understanding them; (ii) developing original thoughts; (iii) developing an action plan; (iv) building stakeholder consensus, (v) advocating NYPA’s position at the NYISO – all in a timely manner.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • In-depth knowledge of wholesale market structure and rules in the Northeast.
  • Excellent, conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to problem-solve and effectively operate within a large, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to identify problems and business threats and independently develop tactical and/or strategic solutions, including an assessment of the policy and financial solutions of those solutions.
  • Ability to independently make decisions as necessary and willingness to take positions with minimal oversight.
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks as required.
  • Ability to chair large committees/working groups from different industry sectors.
  • Excellent judgment and discretion.
  • Excellent Interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with diverse internal and external constituents.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite … Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, mathematics, computer science, engineering or the equivalent required.
  • A graduate or law degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of eight years of utility experience and a thorough working knowledge of wholesale market design in the Northeast and other ISOs in the United States.
