The Division of Child Support Services (DCSS) is the division within DHS that enhances the well-being of children by locating non-custodial parents; establishing paternity and support orders; enforcing and modifying support obligations; and collecting and distributing child support payments. This program promotes parent accountability and self-sufficiency while reducing the public responsibility for providing financial and medical support to children. DCSS also administers several outreach programs including but not limited to Fatherhood, Prison Re-Entry, and Parental Accountability Court. All of these outreach initiatives are devoted to increasing non-custodial parental involvement in the child’s life.

DCSS is seeking candidates for the position of Child Support Services Agent 3. This position is based at the DCSS office located in East Point, Fulton County, GA.

Job Description
Pay Grade: G

Under broad supervision, establishes and enforces child support obligations of responsible parents. Coordinates child support activities with legal, judicial, and public organizations. Conducts administrative hearings. May serve as lead worker.

Responsibilities:

  • Establishing/Enforcing/Modification of child support orders.
  • Manages a caseload to ensure that child support obligations are met.
  • Regular contact with custodial and non-custodial parents, caretakers, attorneys, District Attorneys, Judges, Clerk of Court, law enforcement, POST staff, probation and parole officers, prison personnel, and military officers via telephone, email correspondence, and direct contact to ensure that support obligations are met.
  • Coordinates child support activities with legal, judicial, and public organizations.
  • Presenting/participating in court hearings.
  • Paternity testing/Location of absent parents and resources, investigating and gathering information.
  • Financial and accounting for child support orders/payments.
  • Promote the Georgia Fatherhood Program throughout the community by establishing local relationships and connecting program participants to community resources.
  • Supervises other case managers or serves as a team leader, as required.
  • Performs other professional responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

  • Ability to work independently in all areas including office management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university AND One (1) year of relevant experience.

OR

  • High school diploma or GED AND Three (3) years of relevant experience.

OR

  • Two (2) years of experience at the lower level Child Support Svcs Agent 2 (SST061) or position equivalent.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications demonstrate some or all the following skills/experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a behavioral science (criminal justice, psychology, sociology, etc.) or a business degree (management, public relations, hospitality, marketing, etc.) from an approved, accredited college or university AND Two (2) years of work experience within a government judicial system as a parole/probation officer, court counselor/advocate, officer of the court, etc. for low-risk offenders.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an approved, accredited college or university AND Two (2) years of human services or legal services case management work experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an approved, accredited college or university AND Two (2) years of work experience as a mentor, coach, advisor, social worker and/or sponsor in underserved communities.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent AND Three (3) years human services or legal services case management work experience.
  • Three (3) years military experience as a commissioned or non-commissioned officer with an honorable discharge or serving as an active reservist.
  • Three (3) years of work experience as a DCSS Agent 2 or Agent 3 working with non-custodial parents as a Child Support agent/Child Support Services office.
