Description
The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, a six-time NRPA Gold Medal Award Winner, is seeking a highly skilled child-care professional to provide oversight and supervision for our licensed child-care programs. This person will be tasked with ensuring each program complies with the county guidelines, as well as Commission policies. The childcare specialist will be responsible for the supervision of professional childcare programming at two or more program sites.
This position provides oversight of the daily operation and administration of childcare programs serving school-aged children. The selected candidate will be required to provide facility management, programmatic, and supervisory support to one or more facilities within the northern area of Prince George’s County, handling duties as assigned related to operating a licensed childcare program and supporting the day camp program during the summer months.
Examples of Important Duties
- Supervise assigned childcare sites. Enforce facility/program rules and regulations to ensure the site complies with all licensing policies.
- Monitor childcare activities. Enforce all health, safety, and nutrition requirements outlined by the Maryland State Department of Education, including emergency procedures and action plans
- Explain the philosophy, policies, and regulations governing the center to visitors and parents. Reviews applications and maintains waiting list as appropriate.
- Direct and operate Before/After School Care Plan methods for recreational/educational instruction and activities for the program day.
- Actively recruit, select, train, and evaluate intermittent and volunteer staff in compliance with the Maryland State Department of Education and Commission guidelines.
- Assist with coordinating seasonal/intermittent schedules as well as training opportunities, as well as approve timecards and verify work hours
- Give input and build new marketing and retention strategies, as well as recommend revisions to current procedures to promote facility services and amenities.
- Conduct ongoing research and evaluation of childcare programming, apply information to develop new initiatives and/or to retain existing clientele.
- Maintains records of revenues and expenditures, and other records required by the Maryland State Department of Education, county government, and the Commission.
- Position requires 25 hours per week mainly after school hours. However, hours and locations may vary as assigned.
- Other duties and special projects, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
1. 21 years of age.
2. High school diploma or GED.
3. Associate’s degree in early childhood education or related field plus two years of experience working in a licensed early childhood program, or an equivalent combination of education and experience as approved by the Department of Human Resources, Code of Maryland Regulations 07.04.02 – Child Care Center Licensing.
4. Successfully completed six semester hours or 90 clock hours or their equivalent of approved training, or hold the Child Development Associate Credential issued by the Child Development Associate National Credentialing Program.
5. Successfully complete six clock hours of approved continued training every year.
6. Valid driver’s license or the ability to acquire one.
7. Successfully pass a medical examination based upon county health departments medical standards for child care employees administered by a Commission approved physician prior to appointment.
8. Be of good moral character as determined by a background investigation that is in conformance with Maryland state law.
