Responsibilities
The Choral Accompanist is responsible for providing piano accompaniment for the Johnson C Smith University Concert Choir and Voice Performance Majors under the direction of the Director of Choral Activities. The Choral Accompanist will skillfully adapt to diverse music styles and choral arrangements, ensuring seamless integration with the choir. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong sight-reading abilities and play choral parts during rehearsals, aiding in the learning process. The Choral Accompanist will display a deep understanding of choral music and ability to interpret the composer’s intent, conveying the emotional and expressive nuances of the repertoire. Additionally, the Choral Accompanist will foster a positive and collaborative working environment by effectively communicating with choir members, the director, and fellow musicians.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in music (piano performance/music education); previous accompaniment experience in diverse choral and vocal music repertoire required. Proven ability to work independently, prioritize, and complete tasks in a timely manner. Excellent communication skills required for working with diverse groups. Excellent organizational skills with accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion handling sensitive matters. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
