Position Description
This is a non-Civil Service position located in the Department of Law. The Claims Representative 1 will investigate and negotiate the settlement of claims involving Metropolitan Government equipment, property, or personnel.

Typical Duties
- Investigates claims involving the Metropolitan Government equipment, property, or personnel.
- Locates witnesses and records statements pertaining to investigations.
- Prepares reports on accidents.
- Assembles reports for Settlement Committee and recommends payment or denial of claim with assistance of higher level personnel.
- Keeps information updated pertaining to claims.
- Works with other departments and the public.
- Corresponds with attorneys and insurance companies.
- Investigates complaints received from various agencies or the public.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficient in methods and procedures necessary to investigate civil claims involving the Metropolitan Government.
- Experience gathering, assembling, analyzing, and evaluating evidence or facts to arrive at a sound conclusion.
- Prior experience working with the public
