Summary

SUMMARY

This position serves the Animal Control Department and falls under the supervision of the Animal Control Officer II. Responsible for performing administrative/clerical duties. Serves as primary focal point for all public inquiries via telephone and walk-in traffic. Assists with special projects, correspondence preparation, and office upkeep.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Duties include the following:

  • Answer and direct incoming phone calls to Animal Control. Be able to dispatch appropriate agency and/or personnel as needed.
  • Handle telephone inquiries and direct callers to appropriate departments or agencies. Provide callers with sufficient information to preclude unnecessary referral.
  • Prepare correspondence in accordance with instructions received by the Animal Control Officers, assuring accurate and timely output.
  • Assist with incoming/outgoing mail to include proper certifications, protection of contents, and correct routing.
  • Draft statements/various communications for affected departments, as required.
  • Assist with special programs/projects, as needed.
  • Assist with clerical duties related to general administration, including scheduling appointments.
  • Assist with the general upkeep of office area; maintain office supplies, and office equipment.
  • Type, copy, receive and route mail, maintain files for the offices of Animal Control.
  • Other clerical duties as requested.
  • Attendance is an essential function of the job.

Mandatory Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or GED equivalent required; previous clerical experience and/or training preferred.

Desired Minimum Qualifications

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, write and understand the English language.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate the percentages.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
