Framatome is seeking a Process Coating Engineer for our Mill Ridge Road office in Lynchburg, Virginia. Under general supervision, performs broad, complex engineering assignments requiring originality, ingenuity and the development of new methods. Provides advanced technical support related to planning, designing, analyzing, constructing and maintaining structures, systems and components. Provides engineering advice as needed and displays technical competence requiring minimal direction from higher level engineering staff.
Framatome is a provider of innovative solutions to our customers to meet their on-going needs. One area of innovation is within our liner and coating solutions, which includes spray in place pipe liners and component thin-film coating applications. These solutions have numerous applications and provide solutions to current and growing degradation issues at our customer’s facilities. Our Products and Innovations Group is looking for an engineer that is self-motivated and has a passion for problem solving to support product development in the area of liner and coating technologies.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Performs a variety of more complex engineering assignments typically in areas of design, development, analysis, evaluation, testing, preparation of specifications, execution of field tasks and resolution of field problems.
- Receives minimal assistance and instruction on most assignments and solutions.
- Ensures compliance with government, organization and customer engineering standards.
- Independently evaluates, selects and applies a variety of technical techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgement in making more complex adaptations and modifications.
- Develops new or adapted products, methods, systems or models to provide added value solutions to customers.
- Researches and assesses best practices, proposing methods and improvements.
- Works on special projects, as directed.
- Performs other related duties and tasks, as required.
- Develop procedures, specifications, design documents in support of the design of liner and coating systems.
- Coordinate with various other Framatome technical groups on testing, qualification, and design of liner and coating products.
- Develop application processes IAW industry standards and Framatome procedures.
- Support projects as technical lead, deploying to sites as required.
Travel: Up to 25%
Required Experience
All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for this opportunity:
- BS in Eng’g/Eng’g Tech. plus a minimum of 5 years of engineering experience. An advanced degree may be substituted for related exp. (MS 1-2 yrs. or PhD 1-3 yrs.). In applicable states a PE license will be accepted in lieu of a 4 yr engineering degree

- Ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships
- Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.
- Engineering organizations may have additional qualification requirements with established criterion to demonstrate success including such items as training courses and/or qualification cards.
- Process engineering and/or coating / non-metallic liner work experience.
- Must be proficient in the use of WORD, EXCEL, and POWERPOINT software.
- Must be proficient in industry codes and standards relevant to coating and lining.
- Experience with applicable non-metallic liner/coating codes and standards (ASME, AWWA, ASTM, etc.)
- Extensive history with industry coating / lining working groups (EPRI, American Coatings Association, etc.)
- Strong multi-disciplinary technical background to cover all aspects of product development (structural, mechanical, chemical, environmental, etc.)
- Understanding of nuclear environment a plus, including applicable regulations and code requirements that must be met for safety related liner and coating applications
- Proven history of customer relationships
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work across business teams
Our total rewards package
The range of base salary for the position is between $91,000 – $124,000, and may also include annual incentives, performance bonuses and benefits. Please note that the base salary range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
