Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary

Under the direction of the Collections Manager of the Escalette Permanent Art Collection, an academic unit of Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, the Collections Assistant will assist with a broad range of collections management and registration tasks including supporting the management the Escalette’s Collections Management System, assisting with tracking the condition of artworks, researching valuations and other information about artwork in the collection. This position will also assist the Collections Manager with art installations/de-installations throughout campus as well as the management of the art storage area. The successful candidate will work closely with the Collections Manager to ensure the safety and accessibility of the artwork on display and in storage.

Responsibilities

  • Update general data including locations, dimensions, etc. in object records in The Museum System (TMS), the Escalette’s Collection Management System.
  • Research and update insurance values of artwork in the collection in TMS.
  • Research and update keyword searches of objects on eMuseum in TMS.
  • Assist Collections Manager with identifying artwork for display as well as preparing and transporting objects for installations throughout campus.
  • Assist Collections Manager with the curation and installation of exhibitions.
  • Conduct regular walk-throughs of display locations to access condition and safety of objects on display.
  • Lightly dust and clean artworks throughout campus under the direction of the Collections Manager.
  • Assist with generating regular condition reports of the objects on and off display.
  • Assist with the maintenance and organization of the Escalette Collection’s storage space.
  • Other duties as assigned.
