Description/Duties & Responsibilities
The City of Santa Clarita is committed to providing a challenging and meaningful work experience for college students. The City offers unique opportunities for students to gain hands-on and in-depth experience in a variety of disciplines related to local, regional, state, and federal government operations. We provide real world work assignments, which provide interns the opportunity to work side-by-side with professional City staff committed to teamwork and providing superior municipal services to the community of Santa Clarita. The ideal candidate should have a passion for civic arts administration and an interest in gaining experience in the arts or arts administration, community engagement, public sector work and advocacy.
SALARY: $18.57-$23.52
The internship requires approximately 20-30 hours per week. The anticipated duration of the internship is from September to December 2023.
DESCRIPTION/DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
– Responding to questions and concerns from the general public, arts organizations and outside agencies or organizations with art facilities.
– Using computers to enter, prepare and proofread a variety of documents, including general correspondence, reports, memos and draft proposal documents
– Performing a wide variety of office and administrative support tasks and duties in support of the assigned program
– Researching, collecting and analyzing data of local art shows
– Reviewing and analyzing data and providing recommendations
– Meeting/communicating with various staff and other agencies to obtain information on assigned projects
– Assessing and generating a comprehensive list of arts vendors
– Researching and developing opportunity for the City of Santa Clarita to develop a creative industries directory for Santa Clarita that identifies businesses and people in the creative economy, and lists resources and opportunities.
– Gather information and analyze potential community benefits, diversity and growth opportunities for local organizations, artists, students and businesses.
– Develop a creative industries directory proposal which will include methods and strategies used by other cities along with and suggested implementations for a creative industries directory.
– Aid in the planning, programming and development of the Arts Business Conference.
Education and Experience
If you are a currently enrolled undergraduate college student who resides or attends college in Los Angeles County studying Arts, Public Administration, Business Administration, Communications, Recreation or a closely related field, and are interested in gaining meaningful hands-on work experience at the local government level, this program may be for you.
Knowledge and Abilities

– General understanding of governmental organizations and municipal operations
– Research techniques, survey methods and data collection
– Strong social media skills including proficient use of Instagram and Twitter
– Excellent customer service and presentation skills
– Flexibility and ability to handle multiple priorities
– Excellent oral and written communications
– Ability to foster effective working relationships with all levels of staff and the community
– Computer experience, including Outlook, Word and Excel

Part-time, temporary and seasonal (PTS) workers are at-will.
