Job Summary:
This position will be responsible for responsible for implementing an internal and external communication strategy for the Wisconsin Film Festival and UW Cinematheque as a part of the Department of Communication Arts and its cohesive communication plan. External communications will be aimed at building and sustaining a strong campus and community presence for these two outreach programs. Potential constituents include faculty, staff, and students on the UW Campus, as well as businesses, organizations, and the general public in Madison and surrounding communities. This position will update and maintain webpages for these outreach programs as well as maintain program presence on social media platforms including, but not limited to, Facebook and Instagram. Other duties include working with the artistic director, art director, and the department Communication Specialist to design and implement web content, video creation, photography, and promotional materials that increase awareness, interest in, and attendance at our programs; writing news items, press releases, and other material to increase our profile on campus and globally; curating both electronic newsletters and social media accounts to build ongoing community and engagement with aforementioned constituents as well as alumni, donors, and filmmakers; support for development and fundraising efforts that increase resources for the programs; coordination across all these efforts to produce consistently effective and inclusive communications.
Responsibilities: Develops and drafts communication content and assists in the execution of the communications strategy in support of unit communication goals.
- 10% Monitors reach and effectiveness of communication campaigns, projects, and initiatives
- 25% Plans editorial content according to established goals and objects
- 5% Communicates with stakeholders to verify requests and identify editorial resources
- 30% Writes, edits, and publishes content for various communication projects and marketing platforms to align with strategic initiatives and established communication campaigns
- 10% Provides project management and execution of communications programs, initiatives, and tactical plans
- 10% Plan, design, and update web, photo, and video content across a variety of platforms in consultation with internal staff and external vendors as well as contracted workers.
- 5% Serve as contact for local media outlets, arranging interviews and appearances for Festival and Cinematheque staff across a variety of platforms such as print, radio, TV, and internet.
- 5% Other duties as assigned

Education:
Preferred
Bachelor’s Degree
Degree or specialization in communications or marketing preferred.
Qualifications:
Preferred Experience:
– Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
– Strong knowledge of media and public relations principles
– Ability to write exciting, dynamic, and error-free copy
– Success creating and maintaining web content, including WordPress websites
– Cultivating and engaging strong social media followings
– Producing and editing effective video and photo content
– Ability to foster excellent working relationships (internally and externally)
– Ability to work independently and take initiative to solve problems
– Skill and experience with graphic design, Adobe products such as InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
– Knowledge of and experience working within the Madison, WI arts culture, specifically film
– Experience working with and knowledge of local media outlets, print, TV, radio, and internet
Work Type:
Part Time: 50%
This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location. On campus office work would be done at 821 University Ave in Vilas Communication Hall.

Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays, and paid time off; competitive insurances and savings accounts; retirement benefits.
With the minimum pay for this position listed at a full-time rate of $50,000, the minimum annual pay for this position on a half-time (20 hours per week) basis would be $25,000.
