About the Indiana Supreme Court – Office of Judicial Administration (OJA):
The Office of Judicial Administration is responsible for the efficient administration of all agencies that operate under the direction of the Chief Justice and the Supreme Court. That includes 200 personnel; fiscal management; communication; technology; legal services; intergovernmental relations; services for the trial courts; and support for court boards, commissions, and committees. The Office is headed by Chief Administrative Officer Justin P. Forkner, who reports directly to the Chief Justice of Indiana and serves as the link between the Chief Justice and the agencies of the Court.

Salary: The salary for this position traditionally starts at $60,000 but may be commensurate with education and/or experience.

About the Job:

This position serves as coordinator for the Commission on Improving the Status of Children in Indiana (CISC), a three-branch statewide Commission. The CISC’s vision is that every child in Indiana will have a safe and nurturing environment and be afforded opportunities to reach their full potential and live a healthy and productive life. This position provides support to the CISC through a broad variety of programmatic and administrative functions that assist in the execution of the CISC strategic plan.

A Day in the Life:

This position provides support to the CISC through a broad variety of programmatic and administrative functions that assist in the execution of the CISC strategic plan.

  • Provide staff support for the committees, meetings, task forces, and Executive Director of the CISC, including coordinating audio-visual needs, recording, and distributing minutes, preparing post meeting dispatches, and providing updates to the Executive Director.
  • Assist with tracking state and federal legislation related to the status of children in Indiana.
  • Remain up to date on policies and research related to the status of children in Indiana.
  • Maintain the CISC website content in a timely manner and provide continuous monitoring for accuracy of posted information.
  • Coordinate the CISC youth member application and interview process.
  • Identify local (county- or city-based) collaboratives around the state focused on children and youth with whom the Commission could establish relationships.
  • Assists in planning and scheduling of regular and special events and overseeing logistics of those events including audio-visual needs, catering, registration, and communications.
  • Provide support in collecting information in preparation of the CISC Annual Reports.
  • Forecasts new tasks and objectives conducive to meeting the mission and vision of the CISC.
  • Openly communicates with the Executive Director, makes regular use of supervision and is proactive when seeking support.
  • Performs all other duties necessary and requested to meet the mission and vision of the CISC.

What You’ll Need for Success:

Accredited bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, social work, paralegal studies, or related field preferred; two years of professional experience in a human services role preferred.

  • Working knowledge of Indiana courts, criminal justice or the juvenile justice system preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Indiana legislative process and executive branch agencies preferred.
  • Ability to interact with IOCS management, staff, judicial officers, court staff and the public to provide program specific information and address issues in a professional manner.
  • Proven ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential information and materials in a professional manner.
  • Ability to interact with local staff and stakeholders in a supportive and professional manner.
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with the needs, problems, or concerns of other department staff, outside agency personnel, and the public.
  • Ability to manage time and multiple assignments with conflicting priorities and changing timelines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Proven problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and anticipate needs.
  • Knowledge of proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure to ensure that written materials prepared and reviewed are complete, concise, and error-free.
  • Ability to identify information, materials, and resources needed to complete a project or assignment.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow through on tasks, pay attention to details, and work independently.
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Adobe Pro, intermediate to advanced level
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies.
