General Purpose

Applies prescribed methods and standard practices in performing all phases of projects and assists other commissioning staff on more complex projects. Responsible for field verification, commissioning, and technical support for the Rocky Mountain Project Management Office (PMO) for transmission, distribution and substation construction projects.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for substation and transmission line start-ups in a safe manner without impact to customers and the system.
  • Primary interface with the Project Management Office (PMO) staff and Operations, Engineering, Dispatch, etc. for all PMO transmission, distribution and substation projects.
  • Coordinate all PMO construction sequence plans, outage scheduling, job walkthroughs and punch list preparation/completion.
  • Provide charging authorization for PMO projects to dispatch.
  • Assure substation, transmission, communication and metering equipment is installed and tested in accordance with the PacifiCorp Commissioning Notebook.
  • Conduct site inspections to ensure adherence to engineering standards and specifications.
  • Request and support start-up procedures, dispatch display and database builds associated with all RMP PMO transmission and distribution projects.
  • Oversee development of contingent plans for all PMO projects required to support customer loads during construction or in the event construction is delayed.
  • Provide line phasing using the satellite phasing tool.
  • Support the PacifiCorp Tier I and Tier II major outage meetings.
  • Manage the CAISO data submission process for RMP PMO.
  • Oversee the RMP drone fleet operations. This will include designing new apparatuses for drones to provide greater value to PacifiCorp. Obtain a FAA Part 107 drone license.
  • Support the RMP safety department with building training models and assisting in the writing safety of manuals.
  • Assist with evaluating systems and processes to support Company objectives.
  • Determine methods and techniques for obtaining results.
  • Recommend alternative solutions to management in area of specialty.
  • Act as a lead/expert in the work group; train and mentor level I/II commissioning specialists.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or equivalent combination of education and/or technical experience from an accredited college/university.
  • A minimum of five or more years of directly related experience.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations (if required for the position).
  • Ability to interact favorably with project and work teams.
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills involving the ability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements, present alternatives, and recommendations.
  • Proficient with the use of personal computers and automated tools.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, local laws, regulations and the national electrical safety code.

Preferences

  • Related experience specific to utility.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.
  • Electric Utility Operations experience in Relay, Substation, and Communications.

Hiring Range: $93,900 – $110,500

This position is eligible for an annual discretionary performance incentive bonus of up to 15% of salary.
