Position description
Mayo Clinic’s Legal Department is seeking highly motivated candidates for the Paralegal position. Candidates for this position have strong decision-making capabilities, a high level of independent judgment and exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
The Paralegal provides guidance and assistance to physicians, allied health staff, attorneys and other parties, internally and externally, with respect to general legal matters affecting the Mayo Clinic system. The Paralegal is responsible for managing a large and diversified workload in support of attorneys and clients that requires strong decision-making capabilities, independent judgment and a good understanding of the organization and its business needs. Under general direction, the Paralegal completes work at an advanced level with most work requiring limited attorney revision. The Paralegal responsibilities include legal research, responding to client inquiries, corresponding with outside counsel and other third parties, assisting in management of disputes, drafting documents, project management, process improvement efforts and other responsibilities as needed. The Paralegal in this role will focus on general health law matters and business practice areas involving commercial transactions and intellectual property. Other practice areas may vary depending on department needs.

This position is telework and may require intermittent time at one of our Mayo Clinic sites in AZ, FL, Rochester, MN or Eau Claire WI. Individuals must live within driving distance to one of the Mayo Clinic sites.

Qualifications
Requires a four year degree and a paralegal certificate from an American Bar Association (ABA) certified program or a Bachelor’s degree from an ABA approved paralegal educational program. Must demonstrate solid knowledge in one or more areas of law and its processes. Requires 3 years of prior paralegal, relevant legal experience or other related experience or a J.D.
Additional qualifications
Must demonstrate solid knowledge of the law and its processes. Must possess a good command of the English language, excellent writing and communication skills, and the ability to relate well to people. Must be able to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and in writing to individuals from within and without the institution. Requires computer and word processing skills (Word, Word Perfect, and database programs.) Must possess good problem-solving abilities and exhibit tact in dealing with lawyers, patients, physicians, administration and employees.
