Our new digital designer in Public Affairs will join the Starbucks Stories & Biz Ops team, contributing to and driving forward important creative work serving our partners (employees), customers, and various stakeholders. About the Team
We tell the stories of our partners, our customers and the connections we make all over the world. We help bring the Starbucks brand to life with stories told through powerful video, photos, words and design that serve to uplift Starbucks Mission & Values. You’ll join a team of multidisciplinary creative communicators including writers, photographers, filmmakers, web publishers, designers and biz ops producers. We work across Public Affairs and other teams to drive campaigns forward that align with our business priorities and benefit our key audiences.
About the Role
This role will incrementally grow our design team, reporting to the design lead and working to uplevel the creative output from Public Affairs. The digital designer will support the development of robust creative projects ranging from video animation to graphic design and illustration. The digital designer will work with cross-functional stakeholders – communicators, marketers, strategy owners, company leaders and others – to define creative deliverables and ideate ways to achieve our goals and delight our audiences. A large part of this role will be to enhance the visual identity of our campaigns through multimedia design to tell our stories in unique and engaging ways.
The shared vision of the design team is to uphold the consistency and integrity of the brand, while finding ways to strategically propel the work forward and raise the bar on our standard for design.
As a designer, you will…
• Create visual storytelling and communications materials for internal and external audiences across a variety of digital multimedia platforms – primarily showing up in channels like Starbucks Stories website and social media, video and more.
• Work with the design lead to uplevel communications with expressive illustrations and animation.
• Work with photographers and filmmakers on the look and feel of videos ranging from social media placements to short documentary-style storytelling.
• Work with biz ops producers to prioritize work, track project milestones and maintain deadlines while balancing multiple projects at a time.
• Support and champion the overall creative process – from brief to concept to final output – of small- and medium-scale projects and campaigns.
• Understand Starbucks key communications and social impact initiatives – Partner Experience, Customer Experience, Business Growth and Mission and Coffee.
• Create design solutions that help drive the success, consistency, and effectiveness of the Starbucks brand while adhering to creative briefs, campaign goals and measured KPIs.
• Interpret and integrate creative feedback to advance the work, demonstrating flexibility and adapting smoothly to changes in direction.
• Participate in creative brainstorms, reviews, and share-outs that establish the design team as a multi-functional resource in Public Affairs.
• Keep a pulse on trends and inspiration inside and outside of Starbucks.
• Communicate clearly and effectively with fellow Starbucks partners across teams, leading conversations and interactions with Starbucks values in mind, underscoring conversations with respect and empathy.
• Promote a positive, inclusive, and productive work environment that contributes to the reputation of the Starbucks Stories team and overall culture within Public Affairs.
• Connect with our partners at the local level to deepen the understanding of what it means to be a partner, informing the ways we design everything from barista communications to executive communications.
We’d love to hear from people with:
• Bachelor’s degree in Multimedia, Communications, Graphic or UX Design – or equivalent, practical work experience.
• 2+ years of design experience with a creative agency or in-house creative team.
• 2+ years of experience supporting multimedia and storytelling for videos and/or social media.
• 2+ years of experience developing digital design, including illustration, animation of assets and creating multiple forms of graphic design assets.
• Solid application of design principles in color, composition, layout and typography.
• A compelling portfolio of work with a range of creative projects showcasing skills in design, video, animation, and illustration.
• A basic understanding of communication design and corporate design language, tone and voice.
• Demonstrated creative problem-solving, collaboration skills and strong communication.
• Ability to time-manage amidst rapidly evolving priorities and approaches.
• Team-oriented presence with values that align to Starbucks overall purpose and initiatives.
• Proficient in Mac OS and Microsoft Office products for communication and file management.
• Highly proficient in Adobe CC, primarily in Premiere Pro, After Effects, Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
• Experience in corporate communications, public relations, or social impact for a major brand, agency, news outlet or nonprofit.
• Extensive work with a major brand, whether in-house or as a dedicated agency client.
• Understanding of social media platforms, specs, trends and campaigns developed specifically with social media performance in mind.
• Experience at photoshoots and film shoots, developing skills in pre-prod art direction.
• Prior Starbucks experience in-store or at the support center is a plus.

The pay range for this position may be narrower than that displayed, depending on where the work is performed.
