Status: Permanent Position; 5 days per week; Hybrid working

Reports To: NAM Client Engagement & Campaigns Lead, with a dotted line report to the Head of Sustainability, North America

The Communications & Marketing Manager, Sustainability is an integral contributor to this team, driving localized marketing and communications strategy and new business development across regions, markets, and business segments as the definition and scope of sustainability expands.

Job Summary:

Working closely with our Head of Sustainability, Business Generation and Marketing Leads, business development professionals, and senior leadership across the USA, the Communications & Marketing Manager, Sustainability will be responsible for developing, planning, and implementing communications programs for Net Zero and sustainability client commissions as well as leading the Sustainability team’s timely involvement and response to new business opportunities. This individual will also work with our Head of Sustainability, as an extension of our Business Generation and Marketing team, to research, budget, and plan the team’s involvement in organizations and conferences and support communications and PR campaigns that promote our sustainability expertise, amplify our voice and magnify our influence within the rapidly expanding segment and across the United States. This role will provide support to offices across the USA and may expand support to include the Canada business as needed.

To be successful, the incumbent must be able to lead and guide the communications function across the enterprise and demonstrate a sound understanding of marketing strategy and campaign management. This individual must think strategically, communicate clearly and be able to work with stakeholders to help formulate a viewpoint on complex issues, creating concise and well-written business narratives. The ideal candidate will develop effective approaches to communications challenges, demonstrate strong project management and team collaboration skills, and will nurture highly collaborative internal client relationships with segment/service line professionals and SMEs to drive an integrated approach to corporate communications.

Specific responsibilities associated with the Communications & Marketing Manager, Sustainability role include:

External communications:

  • Initiate and execute a Sustainability communications strategy, ensuring all corporate communications activities underpin its themes – through a consistent stream of activity.
  • Serve as Communications and Engagement Lead on Sustainability commissions, working as an extension of the client’s in-house team to develop interest and support for Sustainability activities within the client’s workforce and customer base.
  • Collaborate on, and assist in, the delivery of flagship communications campaigns to increase awareness of our brand, including our work as a responsible business.
  • Liaise with Turner & Townsend’s executive team to provide strategic communications counsel; draft regional executive-level messages, talking points, scripts and speeches as needed.
  • Work with the External Communications and Marketing Lead, North America, to lead external media relations campaigns, identifying opportunities, and securing positive media coverage for Turner & Townsend’s leadership team and business priorities; coordinate with reporters/influencers at targeted media outlets.
  • Contribute to the development of brand champions to raise our profile and enhance brand awareness across diverse channels, audiences and platforms to increase brand profile and name recognition.

Marketing and content management:

  • Draft Sustainability-related copy for marketing collateral and Turner & Townsend global publications and a wide range of sales and marketing materials, including bid proposal responses, video, infographics and other in-person and multi-media platforms.
  • Direct internal and external Sustainability focused events to build the firm’s brand profile, coordinating across the North America team to marshal and leverage appropriate resources and support.
  • Manage Sustainability focused sponsorships and membership to maximize engagement and ensure a measurable ROI.
  • Help author submissions for event speaking opportunities including tailored communications based on audience, recent organizational activities, market trends, and increased likelihood of selection.

Strategic planning and best practice:

  • Help guide and define the marketing and communications strategic planning process related to our Sustainability practice.
  • Collaborate with internal communications professionals within the North America and global team to ensure an effective and aligned approach.
  • Implement communications goals, strategies, and tactical campaigns and programs to support the Sustainability business unit, with a particular focus on North America execution.

Reporting/Management:

  • Put measurements and tracking in place to ensure and demonstrate the ROI of all marketing and communications activities.
  • Contribute to Board reports, performance reviews and summaries on a monthly and quarterly basis.

Other:

  • Act as guardian of the Turner & Townsend brand ensuring consistency across the region.
  • Champion global/North America programs, deliverables, and initiatives across the region.
  • Quality controls: Ensure all work is performed on time, cost effectively and according to Turner & Townsend’s high-quality standards.
  • Manage communications ‘best practices’ – drawing from and contributing to global best practices where relevant.

Qualifications

To provide the support that Turner & Townsend’s client-facing professionals require, the candidate will need 5-8 years of marketing and business development experience, preferably within a B2B professional construction or energy services environment. Required competencies include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or the equivalent in prior marketing and business development experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience across both bid management and corporate marketing/communications, preferably within the construction consultancy, advisory, legal, architecture, or real estate industries.
  • Experience in managing large-scale (multi-office and region) communications campaigns is preferable.
  • Understanding of global Sustainability trends and key areas of focus.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of the construction consultancy/advisory business that adds value or strategically enhances deliverables and initiatives.
  • An ability to identify critical messages and unique selling points, and clearly and effectively communicate them, and to modify standard text to meet the specific requirements of each new assignment.
  • An ability to contribute strategic concepts for business and project initiatives and successfully execute those concepts.
  • Excellent project management, organizational and problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to implement/enforce procedures and to influence at all levels.
  • Should be a self-starter and possess a strong ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously to tight deadlines, with an ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment.
  • Superior written, analytical, and oral communications skills; very detail oriented with an eye for design and graphics.
  • Creative thinker with an ability to communicate complex ideas in a simple way, both written and verbally.
  • Proactive senior-level performer displaying the utmost in integrity, with a solid work ethic.
  • An ability to demonstrate consistently the expectations outlined in Turner & Townsend’s Model of Excellence.
  • Strong PC skills required. Expert in the use of Microsoft Office package, especially MSWord, Excel, and Power Point. Adobe Creative Suite proficiency desirable. Video and graphic design experience is also a plus.

Additional Information

The salary range for this full-time role is $95K-$175K per year. Ranges are determined by role and level and represent a good faith effort to provide a fair and equitable salary. This range is a reflection of base salary only, not of a total compensation package. Please note Turner & Townsend reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range, depending on candidate’s experience and qualifications.
