Job Description
The Communications Intern will assist the Public Information Officer in completing a variety of tasks, including research and creation of multiple forms of media content for internal and external communications for the Town of Huntersville, among other duties assigned. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Public Information Officer. This is a temporary, part time position. The internship is +/- 20 hours per week.
Essential Duties of the Position
The following duties are those considered most essential to the position. This does not preclude the delegation of other duties considered as necessary by management to successfully complete an assignment or project.
- Assists with preparation and distribution of public information
- Conducts research on assigned topics
- Assists with production of videos, graphics, and other informational pieces to inform stakeholders on town projects and decisions
- Writes content and provides updates for the Town’s website
- Assists with content and schedule for all Town social media platforms
- Attends a variety of Town functions and meetings
- Assists with special events
- Maintains calendar for community engagement events
- Updates database of neighborhood associations, civic organizations, businesses, other contacts, etc.
Knowledge of standard office, events, functions, and activities of the department; ability to speak clearly; ability to understand and follow written and oral directions; ability to operate standard office, word and data entry equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
Minimum Required Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED and currently enrolled in a college program. Preference for students with coursework in public relations, journalism, marketing, public administration, or related field.

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing and repetitive motions, frequently reaching with hands and arms and occasionally requires standing and walking; work requires close vision, depth perception and color perception; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and operating machines; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office with computer printers, light traffic).
