In his role as the state’s chief elections officer, he is working to ensure that Ohio’s elections are both secure and accessible. And, as the first stop for new businesses in the Buckeye State, he is assisting entrepreneurs as they receive articles of incorporation for a new business.
What You’ll Do:
The Ohio Secretary of State is currently seeking candidates for a Communications Specialist. Under direct supervision of Director of Constituent Services, this position:
- Prepare commendations, letters, and other written materials for public dissemination.
- Provide helpful information over the phone to constituents with information about elections or starting a business and redirecting them to the appropriate division or government office, when necessary.
- Receive and respond to email inquiries to the office. Escalate to the Director of Constituent Services as needed.
- Manage the Ohio Secretary of State internship program by assisting in recruiting interns and screening applications, working with intern supervisors to monitor and manage intern schedules and performance and executing internship programming.
- Assist with other communications and constituent service tasks and special projects, as assigned.

Qualifications
T o succeed in this position, you will:
- Have education, experience and/or interest in government affairs, political science or communications
- Possess a superb ability to listen, discern questions and needs, remain patient and effectively respond to inquiries providing accurate, thorough answers
- Utilize excellent writing skills
- Have a natural curiosity and desire to learn about the services we provide and laws and policies that guide those services
