The Opportunity

Abt Associates seeks a qualified Communications Specialist to contribute to our USG International Delivery Practice’s external communications strategy-including health, food security/agriculture, governance, climate resilience, and trade. As the Communications Specialist, you will be responsible for supporting communications strategies and activities for both the Delivery Practice and select projects through strategic messaging, event support, writing, editing, and social media.

Core Responsibilities

  • Supports external communications strategies for USG International and its projects.
  • Develops, designs, and updates communications materials, including stories, website copy, press releases, brochures and factsheets, videos, and social media messaging.
  • Liaises with Marketing and Communications (MarComm) within the Chief Growth Office (CGO) and other divisions to promote USG International project developments and updates through Abt website updates, social media outreach, conference organization and/or support, and the development/improvement of publications.
  • Follows external events that correspond to the USG International delivery practice areas and business development initiatives and tracks USG International’s attendance and event takeaways to promote divisional intelligence-sharing.
  • Supports USG International’s business development processes through proposal research, writing, management, or other tasks as needed.
  • Serves as the USG International Delivery Practice focal point for social media assistance and training.
  • Supports production of the quarterly USG International Delivery Practice e-newsletter.
  • Improves presentations, reports, and other documents through editing, formatting, graphic design, and photography.
  • Respond to requests for division and project information and materials.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What We Value

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, marketing, or another relevant field in addition to 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Writing, editing, and proofreading skills, and ability to write for a variety of audiences.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines, multi-task efficiently, and pay close attention to detail.
  • Experience in social media management, especially Twitter and Facebook.
  • Experience coordinating events (seminars and conferences).
  • Experience organizing internal and external webinars/online events.
  • Experience with website management and/or content management systems, such as WordPress.
  • Experience with newsletter creation (Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or similar).
  • Strong MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel experience.
  • Experience in international development preferred.
  • Graphic design skills preferred.
  • Foreign language skills (French/Portuguese/Spanish) preferred.
  • Knowledge of USAID programs, branding, and communications style a plus.

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of approximately $56,618 to $79,265 and may vary by ten percent depending on candidate geographic location. Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis.
