Position Summary Information
Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Office of Undergraduate Admissions has the privilege and responsibility of being the primary point of contact for students seeking admission to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as undergraduates. In its role evaluating first-year and transfer students, the office works tirelessly to identify, recruit, admit, and welcome students who will positively contribute to our campus, state, and nation. The office also supports students by providing academic counseling, sponsors hundreds of events encouraging students to further their education, and works to enhance the image of the University locally and nationally. Members of the office understand that their work is intensely public and is closely followed by students and their families; secondary-school teachers and administrators; University faculty and staff; lawmakers; and media.
Position Summary
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a creative and accomplished professional to serve as the Communications Strategist and Copywriter in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions within the Division of Enrollment. Reporting to the Senior Assistant Director of Communications and Marketing, this key staff member will collaborate with office leadership and other members of the communications and marketing team in Enrollment to ideate, develop and implement a strategic communication plan for recruiting and engaging talented students; serve as the primary copywriter for all admissions communications; provide creative support in the development of media; participate in the design of graphics; project manage communications for admissions; maintain the office’s website; provide communications support to the other Enrollment offices; manage campus partner relationships; and perform other duties as assigned. Additionally, this member will create and lead the office’s SEO strategy, advising our team on the best way to reach students through keyword search and paid advertising. They will guide our team on how to write for SEO, ensuring that all of our digital content receives optimal visibility, enabling students to easily find our key messages and information, and extending our reach to students who may be using search terms for which we currently do not rank. This member will lead us into this important space as we strive to reach students where they are in this increasingly digital world. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Strong written communications skills, including experience writing, editing, and proofreading.
* Experience creating SEO strategy and writing for SEO
* Experience in copywriting, particularly in short forms.
* Strong time management skills and an ability to work independently and in teams.
* Demonstrate an understanding of diverse audiences and exercise good judgment.
* Experience in project management with a keen eye for detail and in working with diverse constituencies.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* 5 years of professional experience in communications and marketing, preferably in admissions, recruitment, education, or a related field.
* Experience in creative story-telling through different communication mediums and channels. Experience with relevant software applications (such as InDesign and other creative tools).
* Familiarity with design principles.
* Requires a basic working knowledge of WordPress web platform.

* Requires some staging (moving light furniture, boxes, etc.) for photoshoots.
