Candidates must be fluent in American Sign Language (ASL).
Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.
Anticipated start date is November 27, 2023.
Anticipated starting pay is $21.26 – $25.01 per hour, depending on qualifications.
Candidates who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing are preferred. The interview will be conducted in American Sign Language to verify fluency. Interpreters will not be provided.
Why does the job exist?
Advocate for effective communication access for people with hearing loss, coordinate with other organizations to reduce communication barriers, and provide outreach about what our agency does. Support people with hearing loss by providing advocacy services to reduce and remove communication barriers and to educate other agencies about communication access needs and the Telecommunication Equipment Distribution Program.
How does it get done?
Provide individual advocacy for clients with organizations to ensure communication access issues are resolved and system advocacy to educate other agencies about their responsibility to provide communication access for people with hearing loss. This position also provides outreach at booth events to share our resources with the community and other agencies and provide resources for students transitioning from High School to college or employment. Must keep clear case notes and provide regular data reporting.
Who are the customers?
People who are Deaf, Deaf Blind, Hard of Hearing and have Speech Disabilities, as well as agencies, organizations, and hearing individuals.
Ideal Candidate
– The candidate must be fluent in American Sign Language.
– Familiar with the Americans with Disabilities Act and any other applicable laws and rules.
– Excellent customer service skills with clients for individual advocacy, system advocacy, and booth events.
– Experience using Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
– Excellent organizational skills.
Minimum Qualification
Associate’s degree in Social Sciences or Human Services and two (2) years of experience as a social worker or community coordinator and/or social worker assistant. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License and State of New Mexico Defensive Driving Certificate.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting and meetings with clients in a variety of settings. Extensive personal computer, phone, videophone, and videoconferencing platform usage. Some lifting, bending, moving, and occasional travel with overnight stays may be required.
