The Datacenter Community Affairs team is part of Microsoft’s datacenter organization – Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I). It supports the growth and operations of Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure by creating and managing relationships with local stakeholders, bringing insights and understanding of potential new communities, developing a local community engagement strategy to effectively manage social impact, risks, and opportunities. It also develops a community investment strategy, including social and environmental programs, in communities that host our datacenters. We are looking for an experienced Community Affairs Strategy Director with track record in Community Relations, Corporate Affairs, Strategy, Issues Management, and Corporate Social Responsibility to support the evolution of the Datacenter Community Affairs strategy globally. The individual in this role will be responsible for evolving the current strategy, aligning plans with business needs, driving strategic projects, and supporting regional teams to adapt their local strategies.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Operations, Finance or related field AND 8+ years work experience in program management, process management, process improvement
o OR equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of experience in Corporate Affairs, Community Affairs, or Public/ Government Affairs
- 5+ years of strategy-related program management experience, preferably in the technology industry
Other Requirements
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years professional experience working in Corporate Affairs, Community Affairs, Public/ Government Affairs.
- 5+ years of strategy-related professional experience, preferably in the technology industry. Experience in the construction industry is a plus.
- Ability to work across internal groups, managing projects and teams indirectly, marshalling resources toward a common goal, driving for results and developing strategic recommendations for senior leaders.
- Accomplished project / program management skills, capable at prioritization, creating order out of ambiguity.
- Experience developing strategic plans and driving implementation.
- Track record of Crisis/ Issues management and resolution.
- Track record of organizational Change Management.
- Experience managing contractors, agencies, and/or other third parties.
- Demonstrated team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced multinational environment working across multiple lines of business. Experience working in a matrixed organization.
- Proficient technical skills, understanding Microsoft Cloud offerings.
- Able to work across cultures effectively, valuing diversity within virtual team.
- Working knowledge of international business practices.
Business Program Management IC6 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $124,800 – $266,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $159,000 – $292,200 per year.

Responsibilities:
Global Strategy
- Shape a Community Affairs global strategy to support the CO+I business goals.
- Collaborate with the global Community Centers of Excellence to identify gaps, opportunities and deliver action plans.
- Develop comprehensive community models / strategies that can be replicated across regions and communities.
- Collaborate with a broad set of CO+I stakeholders, including Land Development, Construction, Engineering, Design, Energy, Government Affairs, End to End, and Operations teams as well as with local Microsoft teams to align the Community Affairs scope to support business needs.
- Develop short-term and mid-term evolution roadmaps, including process and resource analysis as well as industry benchmarks.
- International and national travel 25-30%.
Special Projects
- Lead multi-functional and multi-country teams to deliver special Community Affairs projects.
- Identify, gather, and organize resources across internal teams to deliver results.
- Present projects, proposals, and results to senior leaders, influencing for support.
Advisory for Regional Community Affairs teams
- Collaborate with the Community regional teams (Americas, Europe-Middle-East-Africa and Asia-Pacific) to identify gaps, opportunities and deliver action plans.
- Support the regional Community Affairs leaders (Americas, Europe-Middle-East-Africa and Asia-Pacific) to localize the global strategy supporting local needs.
- Serve as an advisor to regional team on crisis and issue management, delivering immediate corrective and preventive action recommendations.
