Why does the job exist?

This position will provide coordination of local community health improvement activities with DOH, by assessing community readiness; raising awareness on identified health issues; including the provision of and interpretation of data; identifying appropriate local partners; including partners in planning and implementation of State initiatives; and facilitating communication between local, region and State entities. Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of certified list.

How does it get done?

This position will be responsible for:
– Providing technical assistance to local coalitions in addressing health needs through assessments, data review, community mobilization and the development of plans and policy to address the need and improve quality of life.
– Provide support to the local public health office with participation in programs, clinics and events sponsored by the office by informing, educating, and empowering people about health issues specifically in working with local health councils, coalitions, schools and community groups utilizing multiple strategies across multiple sectors.
– Provide leadership as a liaison between local, regional, state staff and community partners in support of community efforts by mobilizing community partnerships to identify and solve problems in working with the local public health system including Governor sponsored initiatives and other locally identified priorities. Providing technical assistance to the community groups on evidence-based strategies and the components of the Community Health Improvement Processes of Community Building, Community Assessment and Prioritization and Community Action.
– Contribute to a SW Region Health Promotion plan with prioritized goals, strategies, and activities based on health indicators and the community needs assessments by developing policies and plans that support individual and community health efforts in partnership with relevant stakeholders and community groups including the periodic review of existing plans and policies for improvement.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor’s degree in Public Health or Education and two (2) years of experience in a health related field. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Successful completion of Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPPA) and successful completion of Blood-borne pathogen training within thirty (30) days of employment.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Lifting up to 50 pounds may be required. Services are provided in a clinic with diverse population, many who do not speak the English language. Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm. Travel to satellite offices, meetings, training sessions, and special events with the occasional overnight stay is required.
