Responsibilities
Peraton is seeking an Application Decomposition Engineer who will review, decompose, refactor, and validate space environmental science application codebase and provide clear communication of capability needs to the development team. Work collaboratively with system architects and the Chief Engineer to decompose needs into architectural service capabilities/features to include acceptance criteria and appropriate data for validation (test criteria) to facilitate the capability implementation by the developers. Key focus on space environmental science algorithms and capability needs to facilitate the space environment impact analysis/assessments. Decomposition and refactorization of legacy code into cloud native technology approaches and modular open systems architectural microservices.
Location: Omaha, NE, Colorado Springs, CO, or U.S. National Capitol Region (preferred) locations desired – Eligible for telework.
Responsibilities:
- Decompose scientific, space, environmental observations, and instrument measurements into technical software development requirements for capability or data enrichment.
- Will interface with senior Scientists and Data Providers to deliver data for models-as-a-service (MAAS) for the Space Weather Analysis Forecasting System (SWAFS) or Space Environmental Toolkit for Defense (SET4D) Cloud-Native Platform.
- Define technical tasks or set functional requirements/validation for software developers.
- Will directly support the mission in the breakdown of technical measurements, observations, space mechanics, and space weather phenomena, helping the team to understand and code observations into useable data for applications ingest.
- Use industry best practices in coding, scripting, providing pseudocode or building applications software to effectively ingest and triage several space data points and observations.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- 8 years’ experience with master’s degree OR minimum 12 years’ experience with a bachelor’s degrees OR 16 years demonstrated experience in Space or Science Programs of similar scope, may be considered in-lieu of no degree or a degree not relevant to the scientific discipline.
- Must have combination of education and/or experience to understand Space Environmental Phenomena to include Space Weather, Space Environmental Observations, Space Domain Awareness, Satellites, Astrodynamics, or other related Space or Physics-based Analyses.
- Ability to decompose space-observational measurements into development work for development team and outline developmental approach for Software Engineering.
- Must have impeccable interpersonal skills with the ability to work with multiple teams simultaneously.
- Must have exceptional ability to communicate work clearly, document approach, and gain buy-in from stakeholders.
Desired Qualifications:
- Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Astronomy, Astrophysics, Astrodynamics, or Applied Physics strongly encouraged.
- TS/SCI Cleared preferred.
- Any certifications in Software Engineering or Cloud technology, to include AWS certifications, would be beneficial.

Range for Posting
Salary Minimum: $72,500
Salary Mid: $145,000
Salary Maximum: $181,300
The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position, and is just one component of Peraton’s total compensation package for employees.
