The position is a hybrid position with the expectation to be on the Stanford main campus for coordination meetings at least two days a week. Full time with nights and weekends, as needed.

Stanford is looking to embark on a new and innovative approach to early and sustained community engagement to support future land-use entitlements for projects within Stanford’s land portfolio. These entitlements will create the parameters for the next generation of academic facilities and housing at Stanford for the foreseeable planning horizon.

To this end, the Office of Government Affairs is looking to add a new role that will support Stanford’s drive for more purposeful partnership with local communities and policy makers. The Community Process and Stakeholder Relations Manager (CPSRM) role in the Office of Government Affairs (OGA), will be responsible for external engagement functions to focus on local community-driven engagement solutions and processes to build healthier, dynamic, and equitable partnerships throughout land use planning efforts.
This position will manage the planning and execution of effective public engagement functions, expand external relationships, and collaborate across Stanford’s External Relations teams and other campus offices.
The CPSRM is responsible for the implementation and evaluation of internal and external outreach initiatives and activities to ensure that Stanford remains deeply engaged with a variety of stakeholders around land use projects and efforts.
In this role, you will:
- Build, develop and nurture strategic partnerships with key government and community organizations to support and grow Stanford’s external engagement efforts in the region.
- Strengthen collaborations with local government and partner organizations where Stanford can provide policy analysis or expertise, best practices research, and quantitative assessment tools
- Develop and implement feedback mechanisms including surveys and research to gauge
- Stanford’s impact and effectiveness.
- Ensure coordination with departments and units on campus whose work involves our surrounding communities.
- Direct and manage consultants to facilitate community engagement activities, meetings, task force support and other external touchpoints.
- Lead the development of activities and keep detailed records of outcomes for land use engagement processes and procedures.
- Manage and direct strategy to enable matching local and regional stakeholder interests with university priorities to demonstrate commitment and maximize impact on campus and in the community.
- Represent the Office of Government Affairs to external/internal stakeholders and constituencies.
- Direct and manage land use outreach strategy including preparation of presentations, communications systems, and collateral materials.
- Monitor trends and recommend approaches for external community processes related to land use and regional policy issues.
- Ensure partnership with the key leaders both within and outside the university that relate to key regional policy areas such as affordability, housing, transportation, sustainability, and childcare.
- Collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders to facilitate outreach efforts.
- Plan and/or participate in government, policy, and community events and convenings.
- Complete other duties and related projects as assigned.
To be successful in this position, you will bring:
- Bachelor’s degree and seven years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience
- Deep knowledge and experience working within the communities within Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties
- Demonstrate a commitment to promoting and supporting an environment of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging
- A demonstrated track record of positive teamwork and collaboration
- Experience in leading strategic planning and analysis for community process and engagement, including the forming of coalitions, task-forces and grassroot methods of building community input and trust
- Demonstrated ability to make sound strategic decisions using good judgment and innovative and creative problem-solving
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to influence and motivate diverse constituencies which could span multiple organizational boundaries.
This position works closely with the OGA team, the Office of Community Engagement, Land, Buildings and Real Estate Department, and various campus and external stakeholders.
The expected pay range for this position is $142,000 to $190,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
