Position Overview
Coordinates, plans, manages, and conducts programs and activities at Bachman Indoor Pool and supports daily operations. Researches aquatic program ideas and best practices to expand aquatic program offerings. Monitors compliance with local and state codes in the operation of the pool and ensures pool is properly maintained. Markets and promotes programs and activities to the public. Provides customer service, enforces policies and procedures and maintains records and reports.

- Manage, maintain, support, and monitor aquatic programs and activities at Bachman Indoor Pool/Aquatic Center including instructional programs, swim teams, coaching, special events, and competitions.
- Protect the life safety of all program participants by adherence to state and local codes regarding the operation and of aquatic facilities and activities.
- Supervise part time staff in the absence of supervisor and conduct inservice training for part time staff.
- Conduct lifeguard training courses as assigned.
- Plan and implement aquatic programs including organizing and scheduling courses to be offered, developing new programs and conducting aquatics special events and competitions.
- Analyze Bachman Pool operations and implement changes to improve efficiency, service and productivity.
- Identify marketing opportunities for Bachman Pool and aquatic programs, create marketing materials, attend marketing events and conduct presentations to promote activities.
- Ensure the adherence to State and Local laws governing public pool operation, following all environmental and CDC guidelines for ensuring a clean and safe swimming environment to protect the life safety of customers, and maintaining all related and required documentation.
- Enforce rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and safety precautions to ensure patron safety and compliance with various laws and ordinance.
- Perform the daily collection of revenue in accordance with cash handling procedures.
- Maintain financial records and generate reports.
- Involvement in local, state, and national aquatic/waterpark organizations.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support division activities.
- Serve on department-wide task forces or committees.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience
- One (1) year of experience in the development, organization and operation of a aquatics program or public swimming pool facility.
License and Certification
- Must have a Texas class C driver’s license.
Must acquire the following certifications within six months of hire:
- Lifeguard Instructor Certification
- First Aid/CPR for the Professional Rescuer
- Water Safety Instructor Certification
- Swim Coaches Certification
- Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator Certification
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in recreation, physical education or related field.
Supplemental Information
Knowledge and Skill
- Experience developing, planning and conducting aquatic programs.
- Thorough knowledge of the American Red Cross Learn to Swim program and principals of coaching.
- Basic understanding of aquatic facility operations, maintenance, pool filtration and sanitation methods.
- Knowledge of Risk Management procedures, Emergency Action Plans and safety programs pertaining to aquatic facilities.
- Demonstrated ability to provide exemplary customer service
- Excellent and effective communication (oral/written) skills
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and coaching skills
- Demonstrate flexibility and able to shift priorities as demands dictate

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Work is routinely performed at an indoor pool with attached office. Work is performed mostly indoors with routine exposure to high heat and humidity.
- During the summer season work is performed both indoors and out, in extreme heat and varying temperatures
- This position has the risk of exposure to pool chemicals such as chlorine and muriatic acid as well as occasional risk of injury while troubleshooting equipment and mechanical problems with the pool motors, pumps, filters and chemical feeding equipment.
- Though not a primary function, on occasion this position performs physical activities such as lifting and carrying supplies and equipment and the physical exertion required to assist with troubleshooting equipment problems
- This position conducts lifeguard training and evaluation requiring swimming abilities and the physical exertion required to perform rescues, drills and lifeguard testing.
- There is occasional risk of harm when responding to emergency situations or providing first aid/CPR.
- Though work is primarily performed during business hours, work may be conducted in the evenings, weekends and on holidays depending upon the season.
