Under direct supervision of the Community Services Specialist III – Senior Program Lead and lead supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, the CSSI – Food Service Tech is responsible for the preparation and service of the Senior Nutrition Program and provides direct support to kitchen and meal service operations in an Elderly Congregate Meal Program.
The Community Services Division currently has two positions available, which are classified as at-will, hourly / part-time positions with no benefits provided. Hourly / part-time positions average 20 hours per week and less than 1,000 hours in a twelve (12) month period.
Current and future employment is subject to funding of the City’s Elderly Nutrition Program, which is funded by the County of Los Angeles.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS TO APPLY

Certificates/Licenses:
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class “C” driver’s license
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Must obtain Food Handler Certification within first week of employment
- Possession of CPR and First Aid Certificates within 90 days of hire
- Possession of Serv-Safe Certification (Food Protection Manager Certification) within 90 days of employment.
Knowledge of: leadership skills and professional ability to maintain operating procedures, standards of quality, food safety, customer service and productivity within the City’s Elderly Nutrition Programs. Ability to work with various groups; and to maintain effective relationships with associates, participants, and the public.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Adhere and perform a variety of food service duties including those relating to food temperatures, portion control, efficient food flow and food handling procedures in accordance with health and food safety standards.
Ensure that all food is received, stored, and prepared according to health and food safety standards.
Maintain kitchen, food storage and preparation areas in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition at all times.
Document food, refrigeration and freezer temperatures using provided logs.
Understand and practice safety procedures and comply with health and food safety code.
Provide a great experience for guests with a positive, friendly attitude.
Meet deadlines while maintaining high quality of work.
Ensure established emergency and safety procedures are followed at all times.
Accurately document all incidents/accidents and ensure proper communication to all parties as appropriate.
Attend Senior Advisory Council, Quality Assurance, and other related meetings and training sessions as required.
Communicate in a positive and effective manner with all participants, City officials, community members, guests, co-workers, staff and volunteers.
Maintain professional demeanor at all times to ensure the City’s image and mission statement are upheld.
Assist in onboarding & training volunteers and new employees.
SELECTION PROCESS
Work Hours
Work hours will be approximately 15-20 hours per week. Work hours will vary but will typically be Monday through Friday 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. In addition, some evening and weekend assignments may be required.
