Make a difference in the lives of Brooklyn’s residents, neighborhoods, and communities. For over 50 years PSS has performed vital and important work — through its ten centers, two apartment buildings and affiliated programs. The agency touches the lives of over 1,000 people each day. As the Social Worker, you will be responsible for coordinating supportive services for residents in one of the many communities that PSS serves. The Social Worker’s role is vital in ensuring effective supportive services are put in place that allows the residents to remain independent, active and to thrive in their home and community.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide advocacy, support, and general assistance to older adults, throughout the borough of Brooklyn.
- Collaborate with other community-based organizations and service providers.
- Innovate programming and workshops, based on the needs and input from community members.
- Perform outreach across Brooklyn to educate older adults about new policies and programs.
- Provide support and advocacy for homebound older adults facing challenges to housing stability, retention of benefits, and elder abuse.
- Perform home visits on occasion, to properly coordinate care with older adults in the community.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Degree in Social Work (Master’s preferred)
- Strong Program Management Skills
- Experience working with multiple age groups
- Superior Interpersonal and Organizational Skills
- Superior communication skills (written and oral)
- Bilingual fluency (English/Spanish, English/Russian, English/Chinese, English/Haitian-Creole, and English/Yiddish) highly preferred
