Job Duties
Do you enjoy working hands-on? Are you knowledgeable of mining operations, laws, and regulations? Do you have diverse knowledge and experience working in various areas of mining operations? Then look no further! The Virginia Department of Energy, Mines program, is seeking a Compliance and Training Specialist to visit coal mines to confirm compliance with State coal mining laws, investigate accidents and complaints, offer assistance in accident prevention, provide training, and review mine plans for adequacy to support the achievement of the agency mission.
Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate should have the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience in order to qualify for this position:
• Knowledge of mining operations, laws, rules, regulations, and plans
• Ability to use computers to prepare written documents, enter reports, and retrieve data
• Ability to communicate orally, make sound decisions without close supervision, and effectively interact with customers and co-workers
• Ability to work in adverse conditions
• Diverse experience in various areas of mining operations
• Must hold a Virginia First Class Mine Foreman certification, having successfully completed the Virginia Mine Inspector examination
• Must hold a valid Virginia driver’s license and maintain an excellent driving record
This position has been designated as required to file a Statement of Economic Interest in accordance with Section 2.2-3114 of the Code of Virginia. In addition, the individual accepted for employment will have to pass a drug test with successful references as part of the Virginia Energy pre-employment process.
