Job Title: Senior Systems Engineer
Salary: $87,760.74 – $101,738.75

General Statement of Duties: Highly technical position which is responsible for the gathering, analyzing and preparing of information needed to develop new systems and maintain or enhance existing systems. Defines requirements for the improvement or replacement of systems. Fills in for Director of Information & Communication Technology in his/her absence.
Supervision Received: Works under the direction of the Director of Information & Communication Technology.
Supervision Exercised: Supervises other department personnel as required or in the absence of the Director of Information & Communication Technology.
Essential Job Functions: Diagnoses host system problems and develops and coordinates resolutions; assists in the planning, analysis, design, selection, installation and implementation of new technologies; evaluates new technologies; tests and evaluates new hardware and/or software; develops system testing for migration and upgrade; makes recommendations for hardware and/or software purchases; identifies and recommends opportunities for cost savings; conducts system performance analysis and storage management; trains new IT staff; develops and implements network and system security guidelines; performs IT investigations and forensics and documents findings while maintaining a high degree of confidentiality; assists in development of information technology policies, procedures and standards; participates in Request for Proposal (RFP) process; performs disaster recovery in accordance to the plan; ensures offsite backups; defines systems security and control procedures; fulfills administrative reporting requirements; provides and maintains documentation manuals necessary at operational level; regular and punctual attendance.
Other Job Functions: May be called in to work at the Town’s Emergency Operation Center (EOC). Performs related work as required; other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: Considerable knowledge of principles and techniques of systems engineering; experience including system implementation and management of Microsoft, VMware, LAN/WAN technologies, SAN infrastructure; expert abilities in Active Directory, DNS, network design, VPN, terminal (remote) services, and data back-up/restoration; knowledge of project management principles and techniques; knowledge of network protocols and architecture; knowledge of systems security and disaster recovery; ability to adapt to rapidly changing technologies and learn functionality of new equipment and systems in a short period of time; excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently; ability to be a team leader; ability to communicate both orally and in writing; ability to quickly produce clearly written, well-organized documentation and communication; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other divisions, departments and employees. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Experience & Training: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or computer science and 7+ years of experience with implementing and designing network and server infrastructures; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
