POSITION SUMMARY:
This is a junior level Java Developer position working in FDLE’s Information Technology Services Division to build and maintain applications which are in the business area of law enforcement training, accreditation and alcohol testing program. This developer position will work on a team which uses SQL databases. It involves writing code and its associated systems documentation. It provides the opportunity to work through the entire systems development life cycle. The position works closely with the customers to learn their needs and accurately translate them in the process workflow diagrams, database designs, and valuable systems. The position allows for part-time teleworking after training and dependent on displaying good job performance.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific duties include:
- Software will be written using the approved development tools and languages in a manner consistent with the style of existing programs;
- All software will be tested thoroughly to ensure all new functions work as designed, and all existing functions continue to work appropriately;
- All changes will be documented within the software itself (where possible), and in external documentation to ensure all enhancements can be made in the future;
- Proper implementation procedures will be followed 100% of the time. All projects will be completed within the time frame agreed to jointly by the member, the requester, and the member’s supervisor;
- Assist the customer in identifying the correct data elements required to fulfill their reporting requests. Identify and recommend data collection and dissemination techniques that adhere to the adopted standards;
- Work with customer representatives and FDLE staff to identify reporting requirements and capabilities. Analyzes data requirements and recommends techniques for matching and entering data supplied by customers; and
- Work closely with the customer to learn their needs, and accurately translate them to text or diagrams, as appropriate.
To be considered as a potential candidate, you must meet the minimum qualifications(s) listed below. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A high school diploma or its equivalent and three years of experience in computer systems analysis or computer programming;
- 90 semester hours or its equivalent, of coursework from an accredited college or university; or
- Any combination of education or experience, as described above, for a total of three years.
Note: 30 semester hours, or equivalent, of course work from an accredited college or university is equivalent to one year of experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of object-oriented computer programming, system analysis, and design principles;
- Ability to code in object-oriented computer programming languages. Ability to identify and define user task needs;
- Ability to communicate effectively;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
- Knowledge of computer programming languages;
- Ability to process information logically;
- Ability to design systems logic and/or process information logically;
- Ability to analyze and interpret computer program data;
- Ability to identify and define user task needs and/or conduct short range and long-range project planning studies;
- Ability to prepare program specifications; and
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
BASE SALARY:
