Why does the job exist?
This position supports successful implementation of New Mexico Computer Science standards at the K-8 level through managing programs and finances; planning, designing, and providing professional learning opportunities to support the teaching, learning, and assessment of Computer Science.

How does it get done?
1. Utilizes current research and substantive knowledge of computer science education to provide support on relevant initiatives
a. Administers the programs with emphasis on mathematics and science according to all applicable PED regulations.
b. Prepares materials and presentations based on program plans and implementation strategies.
c. Participates in collaborative educational activities with external and internal partners with an emphasis on computer science to achieve State Standards in Computer Science.
d. Facilitates meetings and interactions to ensure that program activities and efforts are effective, productive, and beneficial to all stakeholders.
e. Ensures that program requirements are met through adequate monitoring and regular reviews of program performance and in alignment with the Computer Science task force recommendations.
f. Develops pathways for implementation of computer science at the K¿8 levels.
2. Provides leadership and support to schools, districts, organizations, PED staff, and individuals involved in computer science initiatives. at the K¿8 level
a. Plans and coordinates development of professional learning content and implementation for teachers participating in the programs.
b. Supports the development of appropriate policies and procedures, contracts, RFPs, RFAs/Applications, technical assistance materials, documents, and related program publications for the
program.

This job serves constituents including educators, district/charter school administration and state and national partners on behalf of the students of New Mexico.
Ideal Candidate
Experience working at the district level leading computer science curriculum and instruction, specifically at the K-8 level. A successful candidate has either computer science, mathematics or science classroom experience.
Experience collaborating with other states to shape policy and implement computer science programs at the K-8 level. Successful experience working in a team and accomplishing a variety of goals. A successful candidate shows flexibility and is able to work on a variety of projects simultaneously.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Public Administration or Business Administration and five (5) years of experience as a teacher and/or program administrator. Substitutions apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico’s Driver’s License.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Some occasional travel is required for meetings and conferences.
