The Student Union, Inc. is 501(c)(3) nonprofit auxiliary that maintains three major facilities at San José State University in downtown San José, California. These facilities include the Diaz Compean Student Union Building, the Provident Credit Union Event Center, and the Spartan Recreation and Aquatic Center. The Student Union, Inc. functions as part of the Student Affairs Division on campus, and is governed by a Board of Directors made up of a student majority, faculty, and administrators.

Job Summary
The Computer Services Technician I will provide general computer support to users within the Student Union, Inc.; provide help desk support, installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of computer systems. Under direct supervision of the Directory of IT and Facilities and the IT Specialist
Essential Functions and Tasks
- Provide help desk support; train and assist users with computer peripherals and software operation.
- Identify security vulnerabilities and implement corrective actions.
- Install, maintain, and upgrade workstation hardware.
- Troubleshoot and resolve desktop operating systems issues. System and applications include, but are not limited to Windows 10, Windows 11, Server 2019, Server 2022, Microsoft Office, and Chrome.
- Troubleshoot network based systems (cameras, credit card terminals, etc.)
- Assist in the administration and maintenance of the IT based business systems; including Apache web servers, firewalls, routers, hubs, network printers, and user accounts
- Monitor and maintain backup system; change tapes, and review logs.
- Maintain system documentation and inventory records, including maintenance records, parts inventory, system layouts, physical diagrams, and software license record
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
- Must be able to demonstrate basic knowledge of TCP/IP, IT security, system backup methods, disaster recovery, and troubleshooting of desktop operating systems.
- Ability to support and perform basic troubleshooting of operating systems and user applications. This includes, but is not limited to Windows 10, Windows 11, Microsoft Office, and Chrome
- Understanding of networking principles and system administration
- Ability to troubleshoot computer systems attached to a Microsoft domain environment
- Ability to install, configure, test, wiring and computer equipment.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, ability to manage conflicts.
- Maintain a professional appearance and attitude.
Qualifications and Specifications:
- Must be a matriculated SJSU student and continuously enrolled at least half-time* during the academic term. *Half-time is defined as follows: Enrollment Status Half-time Units Undergraduate and Post baccalaureate Students 6.0-8.0 hours/semester.
- 6 months to 2 years experience with Microsoft Windows; MAC experience a plus.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- The position works in an outdoor aquatic environment, subject to severe hot, cold and inclement weather.

- Sitting, walking, twisting, bending, climbing, pulling, pushing, squatting, crawling, kneeling, balancing, reaching, and coordination (eye, hand, foot).
- Lifting and carrying, often 10-25lbs, frequently 26-50lbs.
- Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone.
Minimum Hourly Salary: $18.75 – Maximum Hourly Salary: $21.63
- This position is non-exempt from the provisions of Section 1 of the California Industrial Welfare Commission Orders.
- In general, the position works a schedule based on business needs and requires early morning, evening and weekend work.
- When school is in session student assistant may work up to, but not in excess of 20 hours per week (among all concurrent positions).
- When classes are not in session (i.e. summer break) student assistant may work up to, but not in excess of 40 hours per week.
Benefits
This position is employed through Student Union at San Jose State University which offers employees to receive 24 hours of sick pay during the calendar year.

Background Check and Fingerprinting
Student Union employees are required to undergo and completed a successful background check that includes verification of employment and education, as well as a check of criminal records for employment. Candidates for positions where the employee will come in regular contact with minors and cash management will be required to be fingerprinted. This policy includes emergency hires and may also be applicable to volunteers depending on the work they will be doing.
In some cases the background check will include a credit check and/or a Department of Motor Vehicles check, as well as a check of licenses and certificates when applicable. All background checks are conducted through the Student Union third-party vendor, Accurate Background
CSU COVID Policy
