DESCRIPTION
The ALERTWildfire university consortium (Nevada Seismological Laboratory (NSL) at UNR, UC San Diego and University of Oregon, UO), will deploy an additional integrated network of 21 HD PTZ fire cameras in Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s operational territory. UCSD will employ a suite of five County Office of Emergency Services (OES) towers and eleven GeoLinks towers, which will expedite deployment and at a lower cost than building, from scratch, a 21- camera system with new towers and bandwidth access.
All 21 of the cameras will be installed and operating no later than 90 days after UCSD accepts the PO; the 21 locations will be mutually agreed upon by PG&E and UCSD. Even though ALERTWildfire is a proven system that has tracked 350+ fires in the last 2 years, ongoing research will be supported by this project to continue improving network fail-overs, topologies to improve network resilience during a fire event, and confederation of independent networks to provide a seamless environment to fire personnel and first responders. In addition, data center failover will also be addressed as part of this research to ensure that camera proxy and data acquisition functions do not stop if one data center becomes unusable due to networking issues or a power failure.
