The Position
The East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) Concrete Finisher II serves as the lead member of the concrete finishing team and is responsible for training and directing the work of Concrete Finisher I’s. Concrete finishing teams perform work such as repairing or replacing damaged sections of sidewalks, curbs, streets and related structures. Concrete Finisher I’s and II’s use hand and power tools to place, smooth, finish and cure concrete in sidewalk and street construction, and on/in pipes and fittings. Additionally, Concrete Finisher II’s plan and schedule jobs, order materials, keep records and make oral and written reports of work assigned. The Concrete Finisher II is responsible for the final appearance and quality of the finished concrete job.
Typical duties may include:
• Setting, repairing or replacing meter boxes in sidewalks or driveways.
• Replacing concrete street sub-base or surfaces.
• Raising manholes to grade in streets and sidewalks.
• Reconstructing sidewalks, curbs, gutters, driveways, steps, catch basins, foundations, walls and wheelchair ramps.
• Applying protective plaster coatings to pipes and fittings.
• Operating a concrete saw and air tools to break out and remove rubble.
• Pouring or shoveling concrete mixture into place, tamping to ensure proper distribution of aggregate and leveling the mixture along the top of the forms.
• Finishing concrete surfaces by using trowels, floats, straight edges, joiners and screeds to obtain required texture and contour.
• Building, placing and removing concrete forms.
• Installing steel or wire reinforcement as needed.
• Meeting with city and county inspectors to discuss work to be completed.
• Placing lights and barricades to protect finished work.
The salary range is $8,063 per month increasing to $8,466, $8,889, and $9,333 after 12, 24, and 36 months, respectively.

Requirements
1. Completion of the eighth grade AND
2. a. Two years of general concrete work in which the major duties have been concrete placement and finishing OR;
b. One year as a Concrete Finisher I with EBMUD.
3. Must possess a valid California driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.
4. Must possess physical characteristics to perform the critical and important duties of the job, including operating and using construction and concrete tools and equipment such as pavement breakers and pneumatic jackhammers; material, such as broken concrete, by wheelbarrow, and lifting objects, such as sacks of sand or cement. These activities typically involve lifting and moving objects up to 100 pounds and on occasion in excess of 100 pounds.
5. Must be willing to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and work overtime as needed.

The Selection Process
1. Submit a completed EBMUD application and the required supplemental question responses online at www.ebmud.com by 4:30 p.m., Friday, September 8, 2023. Only application materials submitted online during the filing period will be accepted.
2. Candidates must achieve a passing score on each test part in order to advance to the next step in the selection process.
3. All qualified applications and supplemental responses will be competitively evaluated, with those candidates receiving a passing score to be invited to a performance test tentatively scheduled for mid-October.
4. Successful candidates will be placed on the hiring list, based on rank, for further consideration to fill the current regular vacancy, as well as others occurring over the next 12 to 24 months.
5. The probation period for this position is 6 months. For those holding civil service status the probation period is 6 months.
6. All employment offers are conditional, pending the results of a Live Scan background screening. All selected finalists must participate in the Live Scan background screening process to remain in consideration for EBMUD employment.
