POSITION TITLE:Conflicts Review Officer

POSITION SUMMARY:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Conflicts Review Officer (“CRO”) that will be responsible for managing conflicts of interest and commitment on behalf of Scripps Research Institute (“TSRI”). The CRO implements TSRI’s conflict of interest and commitment policies, oversees related processes, and provides regular guidance to faculty and staff members regarding compliance with applicable requirements and best practices. This is a great position for someone to grow within a dynamic team while providing high-level administrative, technical and project support. The ideal candidate is motivated, detail-oriented and thrives in a fast-paced environment. This position will report to the Chief Compliance Counsel.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Review all required disclosures of financial interests and external professional activities, determines whether a conflict of interest or commitment exists and, if so, implements a plan to manage, reduce or eliminate the conflict in accordance with TSRI policy and applicable research sponsor requirement.
  • Assist and advise TSRI faculty and other employees through the disclosure process.
  • Work proactively and collaboratively to ensure TSRI’s adherence to regulations that govern use of federal funds.
  • Analyze proposed and enacted regulations, legislation, and sponsor policies for potential impacts to TSRI’s conflict of interest and commitment policies and procedures.
  • Manage training for all employees on conflict of interest and commitment requirements.
  • Conduct periodic compliance assessments.
  • Additional duties may be assigned by TSRI’s Chief Compliance Counsel.
  • Details of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • D. or Ph.D. required.
  • Experience with Intellectual Property law and Research Compliance strongly preferred.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of federal grantee conflict of interest regulations, statutes, and policies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interpret complex requirements into policies and provide guidance to the TSRI community.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills, along with the ability to interact effectively with a diverse constituency.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Organizational and prioritization skills, along with the ability to work within tight and conflicting deadlines and a willingness to work extended hours/weekends, as necessary.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

May include: Stationary position for an extended period of time, lifting, traverse campus/facility as needed, operate machinery such as computer, phone, copy machine; exposure to cold or hot temperatures

COMPENSATON:

The expected hiring range for this position is $90,000 to $125,000/annually, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
