Construction Cost Data Analyst

Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) is the team behind one of the world’s largest cloud infrastructures, responsible for powering all Microsoft online Products and Services as well as powering Microsoft’s “Cloud First” mission. Our focus is on smart growth, high efficiency, and delivering a trusted experience to customers and partners worldwide. We are looking for Construction Cost Data Analyst’s to help achieve that mission.

Within CO+I, the Infrastructure, Planning and Acquisition team is responsible for supporting delivery of datacenter capacity for Microsoft’s cloud business. We have a portfolio of complex, multi-disciplinary, multi-million, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects with specific safety, quality, schedule, and cost goals.

To help us accelerate in achieving our objectives, growth, and transformation we are seeking a Construction Cost Data Analyst to help manage and analyze data for informed and timely decision-making. The analyst selected will drive cost trend information availability to team up with our Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) commercial partners to drive decisions and data-based negotiations.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain construction cost (equipment & installation) database for project costs in line with business needs.
  • Analyze complex data sets to identify patterns, trends and insights.
  • Review data and trends to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Normalize data across geographies and timelines whenever required.
  • Analyze data proactively and provide monthly reports to EPC teams based on cost trends.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and deliver data-driven solutions.
  • Partner with stakeholders across the organization to problem-solve using data analysis.
  • Checking and validating data across cost management systems.
  • Support the maintenance of global cost breakdown structure to ensure consistent usage of standard codes, to facilitate consistent data mining.
  • Plan, manage, and execute multiple, time-sensitive projects with competing priorities.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Project Management, Construction Management, Industrial Engineering, Data Analytics, or related field AND 10+ years related experience
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in an EPC cost role as a cost analyst on multi-group/disciplinary construction projects
  • 3+ years of experience in a senior analyst role working for a project owner on complex, multi-group, multi-disciplinary construction projects, and managing corporate level reporting and tool & process development
  • Knowledge of SQL Server, Data Visualization techniques and PowerBI development tools
  • Knowledge of Industrial Electrical Equipment, Generators, Switchgear (Low and High Voltage), Power Distribution Units (PDU’s) Mechanical Equipment, Air Handling Units, Cooling Towers, Chillers
  • Experience building relationships and fostering support from a variety of stakeholders including EPC partners
  • Experience in the Datacenter Construction Industry, with knowledge of Engineering Procurement/Construction
  • Experience with cost and scheduling impacts on Capex and project cost
  • Experience with applying broad principal and practices of Total Cost Management
  • Experience driving innovation, improving cycles and lean principals while bringing constructive tension
  • Commercial knowledge of international construction and construction contracts
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills
  • AACEI or PMP certifications
  • MBA in Finance

Construction Project Management IC5 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,200 – $194,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $142,200 – $213,200 per year.
