Responsibilities
Responsible for achieving the design, cost, schedule and quality objectives of electrical engineering and provisioning for projects and miscellaneous cabling requests. Requires knowledge of design and construction of IDF and MDF rooms, cabling riser diagrams, general network systems, spectrum management, telecommunications systems, nurse call systems, wireless networks, medical monitoring systems, life safety systems, lighting systems, power systems, radio communications and other special systems. Advises manager, project managers, and administrative staff of project progress, and works proactively with internal and external groups to successfully manage change from project inception to occupancy. Supervises cable provisioning staff as well as contracted personnel. Ensures that user group needs are addressed during design phase and apprises users of project progress during design and construction phases. Assists project manager in the design, review, and analysis of engineering and cable provisioning for large projects. Is capable of timely decision-making and building unique teams comprised of internal groups and outside firms. Manages multiple remodeling and miscellaneous work order projects simultaneously. Prepares bid packages, solicits and evaluates bids received. Contracts work and manages installation with values up to $5 million dollars. Is present daily on site during construction, and observes work for compliance with contract documents and owner intent. Coordinates with contractors on a daily basis and participates in meetings to be proactive with discussions relating to expected activities and construction sequences. Sits and participates in IT and other job related committees as required.
Qualifications
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or other related field for technical training preferred or equivalent experience in physical layer design and implementation as it relates to the construction of new buildings and renovation of existing facilities. Must have knowledge of construction standards, building codes and local regulations.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of five years’ experience managing electrical design and construction projects required. Estimating experience, a thorough understanding of engineering, cabling, communications terminology and supported equipment is required.
COMPETENCY: Electrical design, physical layer and low voltage systems, distributed networks design and specifications including field, premise, backbone, MDF, IDF, point of presence and outside plant cabling. Provides layout and specification level support for lighting and power. Specifies and installs fiber optic utility and copper riser and outside plant distribution systems with an emphasis on networks and communications.
JOB KNOWLEDGE: Demonstrated experience in administering contracts and construction documents preferred. Demonstrates clear understanding of construction standards and industry practices.
Design and construction of IDF and MDF rooms, cabling riser diagrams, fiber optic networks, premise and outside plant wiring, network systems, telecommunications systems, nurse call systems, wireless networks, medical monitoring systems, life safety systems, lighting systems, building automation, radio communications systems, mass notification and power distribution systems.
Knowledge of LAN, WAN, Wireless Networks, Micro computers in multi-protocol integrated distributed network environment is required.
ADDL CONSIDERATIONS: Preferred familiarity with object systems integration models and Layer 1 systems; BICSI member with RCDD certification.
