Why does the job exist?
The Construction Project Manager, will be responsible for managing multiple, large, and complex construction projects and contracts for the State Parks Division. This position will support the Design and Development Bureau by ensuring effective oversight and accountability over statewide construction projects. The Construction Project manager will plan, direct, or coordinate, personnel and activities concerned with the design, construction and maintenance of state park infrastructure, facilities, and systems. This position will participate in the conceptual development of construction projects and oversee their organization, scheduling, budgeting, and implementation; includes management of contractors in specialized construction fields, such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical and structural elements.
How does it get done?
The incumbent will provide project management and construction oversight for State Parks construction, maintenance, and revitalization programs. This includes but is not limited to: personnel management, facilities and equipment management, maintenance and repairs, and capital project planning, development and construction. The incumbent will manage project assignments as directed by supervisor and as may be set forth by the New Mexico State Parks Design & Development Bureau to ensure the goals & initiatives of the Division are met. This position is charged with ensuring the timely, cost effective and efficient completion of facility and infrastructure repairs and capital projects for the Division in order to provide a quality and safe recreational environment for the visiting public and park employees.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience in the following:
* Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Construction Managment, Architecture, Civil or
Structural Engineering.
* Six (6) years of experience in architectural design, project management or construction
management.
* Four (4) years’ experience with public procurement and contract management.
* Four (4) year’s experience with environmental permitting requirements for public projects.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Construction Management, Architecture, Civil or Structural Engineering and six (6) years of experience in architectural design, project management or construction management. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements
Must maintain and possess a current New Mexico Driver’s License.
Working Conditions
Fast paced office setting with strict deadlines dealing with officials from all state agencies, private landlords and building professionals. Extensive in-state travel to oversee projects throughout the state. Site visits may require more than an eight-hour day. Exposure to Visual/Video Display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage, requires use of digital camera. Ability to access roofs, crawl spaces and basements of buildings as needed. Sitting for extended periods of time operating computer terminal or other office equipment or doing administrative duties. Position requires day travel, driving long distances, and overnight stays near project sites. May be required to work in adverse weather conditions, extreme cold and heat, standing and walking for extended periods of time. Conditions require lifting up to 50 lbs. Shift work is occasional and may include holidays, weekends, or extended hours.
