The Quality Control Manager position is based out of the Corporate Office in Topeka, KS but will require regular travel and work throughout the Midwest (e.g., Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, and Nebraska).
The Quality Control Manager is responsible for quality control programs, material management, and technical services of the company. The Quality Control Manager will coordinate with the General Superintendent or Project Manager to ensure that each project has adequate staff to perform the quality control functions. This position reports to the Executive Vice President.
Duties & Responsibilities
Quality Control
- Draft and approve plans, certifications, and all permits related to environmental and contractual compliance.
- Tailored Project Quality Control Plans and Process Control Plans
- Equipment calibrations, certifications, and verification
- Permitting associated with testing equipment use (i.e., Nuclear Safety)
- Personnel training, certification, and verification for QC staff.
- Coordinate plant site setup and layout of material piles withthe Concrete or Asphalt Operations Manager.
- Perform budgeting, cost reporting, and cost allocations of the central quality control laboratory.
- Ensure the completion of concrete and asphalt mix designs for each project, verification of pre-production performance of these designs, and obtain approval for production by owner’s representatives using these designs.
- Analyze and track contract incentives and disincentives applicable to company products, continuously pursue incentive maximization within the project budgets, and disseminate the results by division and project. To all foremen responsible for production activities and project management staff.
- Facilitate communication between owner, suppliers, operations staff, and the corporate office.
- Research and remain current on technical advancements within our industry, including design, equipment, and communication advancements.
- Transfer acquired knowledge to appropriate staff.
Materials Management
- Determine the quality, suitability, cost, and capacity of potential ingredient materials for operations at the pre-bid and pre-construction phase of our projects.
- Compile budgets for bulk aggregate and plant mixed products
- Research historical data on the performance of mix verifications and quality control results for engineered products delivered throughout the industry
- Evaluate and monitor the production and delivery of all key materials scheduled for the products to ensure acceptable quality
- Review and understand contract specification requirements.
- Provide guidance, education, and direction on specifications to company personnel to ensure contract compliance.

Technical Services

- Transfer of technical advancements within our industry to company staff, including design, equipment, and communication advancements, as assigned.
Staffing
- Direct, coach, train, and mentor the assigned QC field staff and encourage them to foster a team approach and build camaraderie within the department.
- Coordinate with the relevant General Superintendent and project management staff regarding scheduled vacations or absences by the project QC field staff to ensure that coverage is provided.
- Maintain and foster professional methods and atmosphere.
- Maintain a positive work environment where all employees are encouraged to provide feedback.
Safety
- Responsible for championing and enforcing all of Koss’s safety policies.
- Attends the daily toolbox talk meetings when possible.
- Ensure that seasonal weather-related gear, including water for hydration is available to the QC field staff.
- Ensures that any accident documentation is completed, submitted, and filed properly.
Other
- Pursue involvement with professional and trade associations
- Some travel is required during the construction season; however, the timing of this travel can be discussed with the Executive Vice President.
Preferred Experience & Education
- At least ten years of experience within a relevant industry such as mining, asphalt, or concrete plant sites.
- Professional Engineering (P.E.) License or an Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification.
Salary: $90,000 – $110,000, based on experience
