This position is Essential and is required to report to duty before, during, and immediately after a civil emergency.

Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City.

This position has been budgeted for fiscal year 23/24 and will be filled on or after 10/1/2023. The hourly rate of pay is also indicative of the updated position start rate for the new fiscal year.

The starting rate for this position is $30.76-$35.37, depending on qualifications.

Responsible for planning, writing, and editing content ensuring it is clear, compelling, and properly distributed across web, print, mobile, and social platforms and adheres to a consistent brand philosophy. The Content Strategist is a storyteller who can take complicated subjects and write about them in an easy-to-understand style. The Content Strategist also designs and implements strategies to use written content to reach targeted audiences and uses research and data to design strategies and plans.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Keeps the mission, vision and values of the City of Port St. Lucie at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintains high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
  • Carries out research on assigned topics.
  • Fact-checks any data collected during the research process.
  • Creates content in the form of articles, blogs, or papers based on research data collected.
  • Develops well-researched pitches and submits to editor for review.
  • Reads style guides or project briefs and uses them to develop content for assignments.
  • Converts the information acquired into readable, easy-to-understand content tailored to a specific audience.
  • Revises work based on editorial feedback.
  • Creates strategies to deliver key messages to targeted audiences.
  • Writes a broad range of content, including speeches, press releases, presentations, annual reports, articles, website content, social media content, letters, reports, and marketing materials.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or English required. Possession of valid Florida driver’s license and maintenance of clean driving record required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, and crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The office environment is fast paced. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions that may be adverse and extreme (heat, humidity, cold, rain, etc.). The employee is frequently exposed to noise, dust, fumes, airborne particles, uneven surfaces, and stressful situations.

PT employees accrue depending on hours worked
Personal Days:
2 days for non-exempt employees per year
3 days for exempt employees per year

Sick Time:
FT employees accrue 8 hours per month
PT employees accrue 4 hours per month

Retirement Plan:
The City contributes an amount equal to 11.4% of an eligible employee’s biweekly earnings into a 401(a) Defined Contribution Plan. Employee contributes 1%.
