College of Engineering and Computer Science:
The UCF College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) is among the nation’s largest producers of engineering and technology workforce talent and we are the No. 1 provider of graduates to the defense and aerospace industries. We have more than 40 degree and certificate programs within the college and are continuing to grow. The Opportunity:
The College of Engineering and Computer Science seeks a Contracts and Grants Specialist I to join their team! The selected candidate will assist the Associate Director for Research with all college-level assignments related to pre-awards and proposal submission. These assignments include, but are not limited to, the preparation and review of proposals leading to submission, detailed budget development; preparation of proposal-related documents, and working as a liaison with OR on non-Workday post-award issues.
Responsibilities:
- Advise and interact the with College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS), CRCV faculty, and their departmental administrators on the interpretation of sponsor guidelines, forms, regulations & policies related to proposals & budgetary requirements.
- Prepare sponsor forms including budgetary, application forms, and ancillary submission documents for inclusion with the proposal submission, as well as internal administrative forms, as appropriate. This includes using Excel for budget preparation.
- Ensure that research proposals, related documents routed through the University routing system, and special considerations (i.e. budget, cost share, release time, indirect reduction, space and renovation needs, etc.) are reviewed and approved by appropriate University officials (Chairs, Dean/Director, VP, etc.).
- Act as a liaison between the Office of Research (OR), departments, faculty members of CECS/CRCV, collaborators, and sponsors with all aspects of sponsored research proposal /administration.
- Prepare multi-institutional proposals; communicate with sponsored research departments at other institutions in multi-university proposals; pay specific attention to the appropriate sponsor format of the proposals and budget.
- Facilitate follow-through of proposals and award just-in-time requests to make changes/corrections to award documents, as appropriate.
- Attend relevant internal and external professional development training, seminars and conferences, staff, and departmental meetings (e.g. EXCIT, FRAC training, and proposal development kick-off meetings).
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and 0+ years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience developing detailed budgets in Excel for research proposals in a university setting, specifically for NSF, NIH, Department of Energy, and Department of Defense (including DARPA).
- Advanced knowledge of Excel.
- Experience submitting proposals to Federal sponsors specifically uploaded and creating documents within their portals.
- Using Huron for system-to-system proposal submissions.
