Coordinator, Externship Program and Public Service Program

Position Summary

The Sturm College of Law is seeking a part-time Externship and Public Service Program Coordinator for between 18.75-30 hours per week (between 0.5 to 0.8 FTE). Reporting directly to the Faculty Director of Externships and Social Justice Initiatives, this individual is responsible for managing all operational and administrative aspects of the Externship Program and Public Service Program. This individual is responsible for fostering professional and mutually beneficial relationships with the multiple internal and external constituencies involved in these programs. This individual serves as the first point of contact for students and externship supervisors in the field. Additional responsibilities include, placement data tracking and management, organizing and marketing events, and data tracking and analysis.

Essential Functions

  • Organize and market the externship program and public service programs internally to law students and externally to current and potential externship sites.
  • Build and foster relationships with both external and internal stakeholders (e.g., externship sites; externship supervisors; students, faculty, staff, and administration)
  • Provide timely and robust support to students through all phases of the registration and placement process. Communicate with students, supervisors, and other internal and external entities to ensure requirements are met, credits are accurate, and hours are tracked for externships and the public service requirement.
  • Maintain files to ensure confidentially and accuracy, inform decision-making, and ready access for team members.
  • Manage technology systems that track placement information, student and supervisor feedback, placement information, student reflection, and other program components.
  • Manage multiple budgets, including but not limited to maintaining compliance with expense and reimbursements procedures; making purchases; and processing expenses.
  • Support multiple externship faculty with individual and programmatic needs.
  • Collect data and conduct meta and micro data analysis to support programmatic decisions.
  • Create and implement administrative procedures to ensure consistency in intraoffice operations.

  • Experience with collecting, analyzing, presenting, and assessing quantitative and qualitative data
  • Demonstrated commitment, knowledge and ability to engage effectively with individuals from broadly diverse communities.
  • Ability to engage multiple perspectives, build trust, and achieve alignment.
  • Enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced, collaborative work environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited university
  • Experience engaging and collaborating with diverse individuals, groups, and communities
  • Interest in working directly with law students in a staff role

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a higher education setting

Working Environment

1. Standard office environment.
2. Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
3. Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

1. Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time.
2. Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.

Work Schedule
This position is a part-time position for between 18.75 and 30 hours per week (0.5 FTE-0.8 FTE). The Coordinator will determine their weekly schedule with the Director.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 7.

Hourly Range:
The hourly range for the position is $23.00 – $26.60
