Job Summary:
The Copywriter is responsible for leading and executing on all messaging and copy needs. With a focus on ecommerce, brand, and product marketing, this role will oversee strategic messaging efforts while collaborating with the Senior Creative Director, Senior Graphic Designer, Marketing Managers, and others. The copywriter will lead the creation and finalization of a variety of short- and long-form copy for marketing deliverables that support acquisition, engagement and retention. Writing style should always be on brand, dynamic, persuasive, engaging and most often written in the style of direct response.
The copywriter will be responsible for the conception, execution, and refinement of direct response, conversion-based marketing for integrated, cross channel communications including landing pages, online and offline advertising, email communications, tradeshow collateral, etc. The copywriter will participate in the concepting of themes and help to present those to key stakeholders. This individual will be comfortable shifting between marketing and product copy, while also supporting the copy needs throughout the organization. The copywriter should have experience with writing copy that converts prospective customers and engages existing customers to continue to choose ACE. We expect this role to come with best practices in communications strategies, a robust history of message testing, and a fearlessness in trying new creative tactics to reach ambitious goals.
As copywriter, you will be accountable for all messaging. This includes writing, reviewing and approving all copy before it goes to market. You are a hands-on problem-solver with an always positive, “can-do” attitude, letting nothing stand in the way of clarity and prioritization. You have an insatiable appetite for understanding customers and are relentless in optimizing communications to best reach the audience and represent the product or service.
Required Skills
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, English, Communications or related field
- 3 – 5 years of writing experience for eCommerce brands, including a strong portfolio in the understanding and application of strategic communications, brand positioning and direct response that drive conversions and brand affinity across a variety of mediums in short- and long-form
- A direct response copy background is preferred.
- Strong command of the English language (including spelling, grammar, punctuation)
- Intimate knowledge of AP style guide
- Acute attention to detail within demanding deadlines
- Strong collaboration and organizational skills
- Ability to multitask in a deadline-driven environment, while keeping attention to details
- Ability to manage projects with an always positive, encouraging, and outgoing attitude.
- Exceptional writing skills, including the ability to write in various tones and styles for varied projects with diverse audiences.
- Exceptional proofreading skills
- Experience working collaboratively with other writers, designers, and social media strategists.
Required Experience
Responsibilities:
- Accurately and effectively communicate the ACE brand across all marketing efforts, corporate communications, and product experiences
- Oversee all messaging and copy needs with a focus on marketing and product, while supporting all copy requests within the organization
- Lead and execute on all copywriting efforts for various marketing campaigns supporting acquisition, engagement and retention; this includes concepting, writing, editing and reviewing of copy for email, display (PPC), social, web, print, and more.
- Participate as a thought-leader in concepting new ideas for campaigns, experiments and organizational initiatives that lead to the creation of compelling content, resulting in cohesive messaging and branding
- Create and manage original, persuasive, conceptually compelling work for rapidly evolving marketing efforts, including but not limited to email, landing page, onsite and offsite strategy campaign launches and content
- Continually write, edit and adjust content to improve conversion goals
- Craft compelling email subject lines and calls to action with emails leading to maximum conversions
- Concept and write messaging for new company branding, positioning initiatives, and product/offering launches
- Contribute to concepting and strategizing of go-to-market plans, integrated marketing campaigns, lead capture campaigns, lead nurture and customer retention funnels
- Present and champion both conceptual ideas and finished deliverables to the marketing team, sr. creative director and other directors with a strong ability to ‘sell’ and influence the underlying strategy and direction
- Create copy for A/B test experiments of various marketing assets
- Proofread all messaging before it goes to market, ensuring that the copy is accurate, aligned with brand identity, has strong calls to action, and that proper grammar/spelling is used
- Continually seek out market research, specifically audience profiles and competitor audits to better position ACE as the premier solution in the space
- Write and edit company newsletters
- Write marketing video scripts, and participate in storyboarding videos
- Optimize webpages, product names and product descriptions for SEO
- Review research and customer submissions to write feature articles for industry magazine
- Write all continuing education course “product” descriptions and supporting marketing assets used online and in print materials
- Assist in proofreading and editing all ACE blogs submitted by senior fitness consultants and guest writers when needed
- Provides keywords, meta descriptions and page titles for ACE web pages
- Develop an understanding for basic health and fitness principles, the health and fitness industry, the obesity epidemic, and the role that qualified professionals play in helping people live their most fit lives
- Assist the Online Business Technology (OBT) and Marketing departments in quality assurance processes of all website content and exclusive ACE programs, reviewing all on site messaging on the test site before it goes live
- Collaborate directly with all members (roles) across the marketing team
- Maintain a commitment to and align with ACE mission, vision, values and programs, to successfully lead teams to represent ACE
- Other duties as assigned
Salary Range – $60,000 – $80,000
