Amazon’s Legal Department is looking for a Corporate Counsel to support Amazon Web Services (AWS), a dynamic and rapidly growing business within Amazon.com. AWS is at the forefront of “cloud” computing. AWS has the services, whether its compute power, database storage, content delivery, AI/ML or other functionality, to help customers build sophisticated applications with increased flexibility, scalability and reliability. As Corporate Counsel, you will serve as a primary attorney for business executives, product, procurement, operations, business development, program management and engineering teams.
This role will own and deliver on a diverse array of complex transactions to develop, procure, manufacture, deploy, and sustain technology that is critical to enabling AWS’s cloud services offerings worldwide. You will also help identify, counsel on and resolve a wide array of commercial, operational, legal and other issues, but particularly on intellectual property (IP), IP protection and licensing and vendor engagement and negotiation strategies. This Corporate Counsel will also develop, review and advise on standard operating procedures, forms and internal policies and will develop and deliver trainings and business facing resources.
Successful candidates will demonstrate strong organizational and collaboration skills across multiple internal teams and with external customers and counter-parties. A clear and concise communication style that is effective across internal and external teams, including technical and non-technical executives, is required.
This position is based in Seattle.
Key job responsibilities
• Structuring, drafting and negotiating complex commercial and technology-related agreements, including development, supply, manufacturing, software licensing, services, and other bespoke agreements.
• Supporting and directly advising business partners on legal, commercial, operational and other risks as well as contracts, disputes and strategic business initiatives.
• Developing, advising on and implementing with the business vendor engagement, contract and negotiation strategies.
• Collaborating cross-functionally to identify and resolve commercial, operational, compliance, security, safety, legal and customer/vendor issues.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) and membership in one state bar or equivalent, with 5+ years of legal experience as an attorney
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience in technology procurement, manufacturing, and/or hardware product development counseling and transactions and intellectual property licensing.
• Prior support of engineering, procurement, supply chain or operations teams.
• Strong technology-related transactional experience
• Strong judgment in the absence of precedence, issue spotting and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent organizational and task-tracking skills, and ability to manage multiple projects at once, follow through, and meet deadlines
• Experience providing prompt practical, crisp and actionable legal advice
• Demonstrated ability to lead and influence cross-functionally to root cause and promptly resolve and deliver results on complicated problems.
• Curiosity, and a willingness to learn and build relationships in a team environment.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $123,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $229,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
